1959 TR3A Restoration

This is the outfit that will have the chassis and body for a many months.  If things do not look very busy... it is because it was 5:00 a.m. when I drove through town without electricals, windscreen, bumpers, etc.  I did re-install the drivers seat as the Frank's Root Beer case I had been using for a front seat was not roadworthy.

Mario and the crew at Desert Sky begin the task of stripping 40 years of paint jobs of varying quality and unknown materials.  Some layers were brittle (easy) and some were gummy (not easy).  Both front wings show the bondo of prior repairs. Although the stuff was not thick and appears solid, Mario says it must go as he can get the underlying metal much straighter.

The prior coats of paint were at their worst on the bonnet.  Here engine heat and flexing had combined to craze and crack the many layers of paint.

Very little prior damage was revealed upon stripping the left front wing, though the typical rust was discovered on the bottom of wing where dirt and water become trapped behind the metal.
