Edward VI
| Born in 1537,
Prince Edward was given a thorough education befitting a Renaissance ruler. Edward
was a precocious scholar, and under his Reform minded tutors became devoted to the
'new' religion. After Henry VIII's death in 1547, Edward and his advisors transformed England into a Protestant nation. When the young King lay dying from tuberculosis in 1553, he designated his cousin Lady Jane Grey as Queen instead of his own two sisters Mary and Elizabeth. |
