About Us

Tuesday's Child is the summer drama group at Grace Lutheran Church in River Forest.

Its name is taken from the children's nursery rhyme that suggests Tuesday's Child is "full of grace."

The company was begun under the leadership of Mike Meyer in 2003 and was designed to offer another opportunity for Grace to have outreach into the community. This musical outreach however would consist of musicals rather than the usual Grace fare of organ recitals, Bach cantatas and other performances of classical music.

The troupe staged a successful production of Stephen Schwartz's Godspell in 2003 featuring Chicago music teacher Justin Tuffy as Jesus. The troupe also acquired Grace members John Streufert as rehearsal accompanist and Lori Bormet as Music director.

The second season was more adventuresome undertaking Sondheim and Lapine's Into The Woods. Quite a few actors and actresses from the local Chicago community tried out and the production dates increased from 4 shows to 6.

in 2005, the troupe selected Fiddler on the Roof as its production and grew considerably adding a resident choral director and choreographer. Set designer Jenny Laabs and set construction Drew Nierman retained their original jobs as audience grew from 60 to near to 200.

Tuesday's Child then presented Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man" as the musical for the summer of 2006. With a cast of over 40 performers, and the production expertise of the assembled team, it was another hit!

2007's Summer production was the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic "Oklahoma," which was another crowd-pleasing show.

For Summer 2008, "Bye Bye Birdie" has been selected, and the production team is looking forward to getting to work on what's sure to be another great show.
