This article will cover the entire process starting from Order receipt in the form of Enquiry from a Buyer to the shipment for that order under the following heading:

1.
Reciving an Order
2. Planning an Order
3. Executing an Order

1. Receiving an Order

Generally an Order can be defined as a contract between buyer and shipper for exchange of prodcut/service/money. In Clothing Industry this order goes through an evolution from a mere enquiry to a confirmed contract.  Evolution of an order can be traced to three basic stages, viz., Enquiry, Sample and Confirmed.  During this period, exchange of the technical and commercial details pertaining to the order are communicated and mutual understanding of the same has to be ensured.

1.1
Enquiry: This is the first stage of an order, whereby the Buyer to the Shipper communicates the commercial and technical details.  When these details like pricing, delivery details, overall technical specification of hte style are mutually feasible and acceptable then the order moves on to the Sampling stage.

The flow diagram depicts that based on the Measurement charts and other technical details received from the Buyer the Sample Patterns are made and so do the samples based on it. This is sent for approval.

1.2
Sampling: During this stage, in order to ensure mutual understanding of the style specifications various garment samples are made with the exact or substitute raw materials and submitted for approval by the Shpper to the Buyer. This stage is depicted in the flow diagram by the second approval block diagram.

1.3
Confirmed Order: Once the sampling process is done successfully, then the buyer confirms his order with exact commercial and technical details like exact size, color quantity details. The activities depicted below the second approval block denotes that of the Bulk Production for a Confirmed Order.

2.0 Planning (for) an Order

Once the order is confirmed, then in order to satisfy its commercial and technical expectations, planning has to be done to allocate the available resources like man, machine, material and such.  Macro level and Micro level of planning is done for an order.  Allocation of an order to a factory/sewing line with a target production per day is done in macro level planning.  While exact manning and machine allocation for all the individual operations related to the order style are done in macro level planning in the factory.
