Project Street Ghost
mmmm..... tuuuurrrbbooo
Welcome, my name is Eric Myers. Like any gearhead i dream sleep and eat powerfull engines and fast cars. Im not biased to any brand import or domestic. I believe any well designed combo, yes even those dam civics, can be respectable but i work on and build chevys. Simply because there most common and parts are cheap and sometimes free. For my age, 17, or any age for that matter im extremly smart with engines. I have my own fab shop in my basment to do almost anything. Im big on turbos and think every car should have at least one :)

This project is starting with a cream white v6 87 camaro berlinetta (no side skirts) we already took out the v6, cleaned and painted the engine compartment, and removed the interior. The original plans almost 2 years ago was for my big bro to put in a vortech 355 and build a nice street car. After siting for over a year now ive decided its mine to play with.

I found a pair of used 502 big block marine engines longblocks for $800 each. They have forged internals, 8.75 cr, and 4 bolt mains :)  And i happen to have  a 76mm turbo.... yea... :D

After talking with guys on camaroz28 im confident this is the engine to build for monster power in excess of 1000hp.

So my plans for this car is to build a pro stock style chassis. Its going to be left gutted, 4 link, 12 point cage and one, mabey 2 race seats. Then drop the 502 in, backed by a worked th400 witha 2500-3000 stall for some streetability. Im going to start off carbed with a 780 holley. Later im going to install a megasquirt EFI and a monster fuel system to feed this beast.

After playing a bit with this combo and tuning the engine and chassis im going to get some monster power and install a 76mm truck JY turbo i have. Im going to use a powerstroke intercooler, and i think it shoudl flow enough if not ill double up 2 cores. After getting the turbo setup worked out with ~5psi boost im going to take it up a nocth. Im going to pull the engine and get it machined and bored out to the minimal amount, and order some ross pistons and eagle rods so it can handle some serious boost!

My goal for this project is to get into the 8's under $20k, and be street legal, not to be confused with streetable. Is going to be a track car and id also like to play a bit with the locals on the street. My budget list works out to $12k so im guessing $15K is possible, only if not alot driveline parts blow up on me.

I just bought a bunch of good chassis & suspension books so after absorbing all the tech, planing out the design, and allowing some time for it to warm up a bit, Ill get started with the chassis. Id like to get the first stage done in summer '04 and then in fall get the turbo in and late fall '04 pull the motor and re install the final setup spring '05. Check in this spring for progress pics!

My Bro's Procharged
      97 SS Camaro

My big bro Dennis bought this 97 ss with 22k worth of work done thanks to KMook to it for an amazing deal. I found it at cammroz28 message board. He will have to work his ass off to pay for the car and pay for the 9 miles per gallon he currenly gets, even less with the procharger on but its worth it if your like us : P. So far we havent done anything to it..... yet. I want to put twin turbos on because the compression i feel is too low for a supercharger.

As of now the supercharger isnt in yet and its just a cold air intake.  He wants the car to be ready for the power when he has it so hees going to beef up his driveline first.

Some of the specs are, full rear suspension upgrades, ls1 brakes, 383 stroker, callies crank, eagle H beam rods , forged dish pistons, stage 2 lt1 heads, custom dual profile roller cam around 225 dur, hooker headers-jet hot coated, 3" exhaust with x pipe, no cats, bullet mufflers, ehxaust dump before axle, 58 mm throttle body, full aremotive fuel system with braided fuel lines, 17" zr1 wheels, rear 12" tread width! kevlar clutch short shifer, 3.55 gears, and beefy axles.

hopefully he will take it to thet track soon and get some times without the supercharger. It should run in 11s the once he gets everyhing down like geting out of the hole and shift points, 12's easy.

Update 5/30/03
Dennis installed his 36lb injectors because he dosent plan on instaling the supercharger yet. He used tunercat to re program the ecu fo the 36lb injectors but  the car felt wimpy up top, we decided we have to hook up a o2 sensor so we can see whats going on. Im goinng to build him a non wideband o2 sensor readout, then later mabey a wideband setup.

Update 2/11/04
We installed a McLeod street twin after the spring retainers gave out on the spec clutch. I think what broke the spec clutch was a mix of him learning to drive stick then learning how to race stick. Dam this stret twin grabs hard! a biut too hard actualy, he already broke his stock rear and twisted his drivehaft in half after about 4 runs starting at a roll. So now he purchaced a 12 bolt and carbon fiber driveshaft as a combo. Once this goes in the nest step is to start with the charger install! :D
