1976
Most of the lights along the side
roads were GEC side entry Fluorescent lanterns , side entry GEC Z8691
( INTEGRAL GEAR , 80W MBF BULB ) , top entry GEC Z5580 ( less gear ,
refractor bowl , 80W MBF BULB ) and all these are on GEC 5M concrete
posts .
Most of these lights turn off about 11-12
midnight .
The main road lights were GEC 8M concrete
posts and in the outskirts of the town the lanterns were top entry
GEC Z9444 ( 90W SOX ) and in the town centre , there were side entry
GEC Z8455 ( less gear , MBF BULBS , semi-cut off bowls ) . Most of
these lights are group switched ( one time switch control some roads
)
1977
Most of the side roads lights were changed
to side entry THORN BETA 79 lanterns ( 70W SON BULB , integral gear )
except for the top entry GEC Z5580 ( less gear , refractor bowl , GLS
BULB ) lanterns .
1980S
The council is started using the side entry
SIMPLEX DIADEM MAJOR lanterns ( 70W SON BULB , integral gear ) for
the side roads.
In the outskirts of the town all the old top
entry GEC Z9444 ( 90W SOX ) lanterns have been changed with new
lanterns. On the old GEC 8M concrete posts new metal brackets were
fitted which raised the mounting height of these posts to 10M and the
new lanterns were DAVIS ( ELECO ) GR150 lanterns ( less gear , 135W
SOX bulbs ) .
All the bulbs in the lanterns in the town
centre were changed from MBF (MERCURY ) to SON bulbs .
Along some roads in the town centre some
HERITAGE lighting was installed.
1990S
On the side road lights the council has
started using these lanterns .
Side entry WRTL ( DAVIS ) GR70 lanterns (
70W SONT BULB , NEMA socket blanking photocell ) with blanking
photocells which just link out the NEMA sockets and in these
photocells is nothing and these are black in colour .
Post top CU PHOSCO P111 lanterns ( integral
gear , 70W SON bulb , HIGH BEAM glass refractor and a miniature 1
part photocell ) . The miniature 1 part photocells are fitted on the
bottom of the lanterns .
Side entry DAVIS ( ELECO ) GR918 lanterns (
less gear , 70W SON bulbs ) .
CU PHOSCO P567 lanterns ( integral gear ,
70W SONT bulb ) and the PHILIPS SGS201/70 lanterns ( integral gear ,
70W SONT bulb ) . Some of these lanterns has got NEMA sockets
photocells and blanking NEMA sockets photocells.
Side entry URBIS ZX1 lantern ( integral gear
, refractor bowl , white tops , 70W SONT BULB , NEMA socket blanking
photocell ) with blanking photocells they just link out the NEMA
sockets and in these photocells is just some wire links and these
photocells are black in colour .
On the main road lights the council has
started using these lanterns .
All the old GEC 8M concrete posts in the
town centre were changed to BRITISH STEEL ( CORUS ) 8M metal posts
with WRTL MRL 6 lanterns ( SONT BULBS , semi-cut off bowls , NEMA
socket blanking photocells ) .
In the outskirts of the town all the old
side entry DAVIS ( ELECO ) GR150 lanterns ( less gear , 135W SOX
bulbs ) on the old GEC concrete posts were changed to WRTL MRL 6
lanterns ( SONT BULBS , semi-cut off bowls ) .
2002
Along of the side roads some of the old
lanterns have been changed with new Side entry URBIS ZX1 lantern (
integral gear , refractor bowl , white tops , 70W SONT BULB , NEMA
socket blanking photocell ) .
Most of the old top entry GEC Z5580 lanterns
( less gear , refractor bowl , 80W MBF BULB ) are still on GEC 5M
concrete posts along some roads .

These posts are on the wall and got
a post top CU PHOSCO P111 lanterns ( integral gear , 70W SON
bulb , HIGH BEAM glass refractor and a miniature 1 part
photocell ) . The miniature 1 part photocells are fitted on
the bottom of the lanterns .
In the 70s on these posts were CU
PHOSCO P109 lanterns ( mercury ( MBF ) bulb , glass
refractor ) . Then in the 80s these have got changed to
Globe lanterns ( 70W SON bulbs ) and then in the 90s these
got changed to CU PHOSCO P111 lanterns .
