OXFORD , OXFORDSHIRE
This page is about some STREETLIGHTING in OXFORD in
OXFORDSHIRE.
1970S
Along the main roads in Oxford most of the
lights were ELECO GR305 lanterns and THORN ALPHA 3 lanterns with RTE
P42 photocells. A lot of these were changed in the late 70s , first
with THORN ALPHA 4 lanterns ( 135w SOX , less gear ) with RTE P42
photocells and then after a time the council changed over to PHILIPS
MA lanterns ( 135w SOX , less gear ) with NEMA socket
photocells.
Along most of the side roads in the Oxford
city centre in the late 70s , the council installed new wall mounted
HERITAGE SQUARE lanterns ( MBF BULBS ) glass refractors with RTE P42
photocells and these P42 control boxes were left in the bottom of the
lanterns. I think all these lanterns have gone now .
In the early 90s the council started to
changed them with new D.W. WINDSOR WINDSOR lanterns with the new type
of refractors with SONT bulbs in them and with miniature type of
photocells.
In the middle 90s, the council changed over
to URBIS ABBEY lanterns with SONT bulbs in them and with miniature
type of photocells.
1990s
There were some old double-bracketed posts
in St Giles and these they had side entry ELECO ( DAVIS ) GR305
lanterns on them .In the early 90s 3 of these were replaced with new
HERITAGE posts with top entry HERITAGE lanterns and they were painted
black.
Some time after that all the old and the new
posts were replaced with new D.W.WINDSOR HERITAGE posts with top
entry URBIS ST GILES lanterns with METAL CRAFT brackets.
The old THORN AREA FLOOD lights that were
along Cornmarket Street has been changed to URBIS RT flood lights and
these are connected to water proof sockets which is next to
them.

NORTHMOOR
ROAD

|
This is near the city centre ( 20 min
walk ). Along this road there is a lot of these posts and
lanterns . In the 80s these were painted black and in the
90s and they were painted green.
The lantern is a GEC Z5580/1/2DB lantern
and above this lantern is a RTE P9 with a A1 adaptor
photocell and this has got a MBF BULB .
With the RTE A1 adaptor you put the P9
photocell unit inside it and the A1 adaptor is made of metal
and it is for top entry lanterns. RTE made another type of
adaptor which is for post top lanterns and the adaptor is
called the A2 and you fit the P9 photocell unit inside it as
well.
