To all Yellow and Red silk as well as Healers
- Assist patient to the furs beside them.
(A boy/girl will tend their own Master/Mistress, chain sisters/brothers help with others as
needed. If conflicting orders or commands are given by Masters/Mistresses that differ from the first girls
orders please post, "Master/Mistress, this slave was assigned to tend so and
so. Would You like this slave to attend someone else instead?")
- If you do not know, ask what wounds need tending remove clothing as
necessary. Cover with soft fur and be careful to protect a Mistresses' modesty.
Put up furs or something to see that she remains covered.
- Offer healing or willow tea for pain or sprinkle blue grass powder over wound.
- Bathe open wounds with antiseptic paga or pour on rence cloths to pat the wound clean.
- Apply blue grass powder to the wound edges.
- If blades remain in the wound use a rence cloth or pliers from the med kit to pull it
free. Inspect the wound afterwards for bleeding and fragments. Use the tweezers (after dipping them in paga or antiseptic) if needed to remove them.
- Apply pressure to the wound with a repcloth to slow the
bleeding.
- Stitch as necessary. See wound
care.
- If there is bruising or muscle strain,
massage with ointment and offer ice pack.
- Get restorative broth from fire pit if lots of blood loss.
Additional training for red silk
- Burns are treated with salve and dressed only if deep.
- Broken bones - to be sure to set by jerking then run finger along the bone to be sure is
straight. Apply a splint so can not move for a few days.
- Bruising or muscle strain - massage with ointment and offer ice
pack.
- Choking - get behind the patient and reach around with both hands at
abdomen. Quickly jerk back and up on the diaphragm. This will force lots of air out and make the patient to cough out stuck
object. If not see Tracheotomy.
Wound Care - detailed and severe
- If there is any active bleeding from torn or cut veins take a cauterizing iron from the Med Kit and lay it over the bleeding vessel to sear it
shut. If artery is what is bleeding (spurting blood out) then that must be carefully stitched back together first
with a needle from the Med Kit.
- Wipe away the blood with antiseptic soaked
cloth. Sprinkle with green powder if needed and then layer on antiseptic made of sage and
peppermint. This is all that is done for wounds that don't require stitches.
- Wounds that require stitching need to be
bandaged. Using a thick layer of clean rep cloth, wrap the wound
snugly with silk bandages.
- Change bandages daily for one or at most three days for serious
injuries.
- Stitches are to remain dry. Healing will occur in half the time.
Additional knowledge needed for Healers and healing
kajira
- Child Birth - check the dilation to
determine how open the womb
is. Time the contractions. When they are close and she is dilated
wide and you can see the head. Tell her to push. Guide the baby out
gently. As soon as it is out clear the mouth and wash off blood. Cut and tie cord and rub with animal fat and
wrap. Have someone hold until after the mother has the afterbirth then gently check to be sure all is on and
out. Clean the mother up then give her the baby
- Collapsed Lung - use the chest tube in med
kit. Insert between the ribs on side of injured lung. Use a sharp trocar to make the hole (ask permission
first as it is an ice pick and can be considered a weapon) then inserting chest tube between
ribs. Stab gently with firm pressure with a little twist. Remove
the trocar and leave the tube. Blow hard on the end of the tube until you hear the lung pop back
open then pad the end to catch bloody drainage. Use a flesh knitter to
stitch the tube in place. Remove the chest tube when lungs sound clear and stitch back
together, usually in two days.
- Lung Punctured - use the chest tube in med
Pad the end to catch bloody drainage.
Use a flesh knitter to stitch the tube in place. Remove the chest tube when lungs sound clear and stitch back
together, usually in two days.
Poison
- Kanda
leaf - give emetics and make the patient vomit then have them drink milk and
honey. Usually not fatal unless lots of leaves have been
ingested. Some are addicted to the effects of kanda leaves but kanda
can kill one that is not used to it or has too much.
NOTE:
The Chief Healer of Turia has determined that NO healer in Turia will be
permitted to use kanda as a pain killer for any reason whatsoever due to the
addictive qualities of the plant.
- Kanda
root - more serious. Give antidote to the patient then do as above.
Be swift as you only have 10 beats of the heart to apply the antidote before
death occurs.
- Cosian wing fish spine - Give antidote
to the patient. Be extremely fast as you only have 3 heart beats to
administer the antidote before death occurs.
- Ost - Immediate
death. Administering
an antidote is useless as the patient will die within ihn of the bite.
Tracheotomy
- If airway is blocked due to smoke inhalation or blocked
objects or broken wind pipe and the patient cannot breathe, take a knife and cut a small hole at base of neck where the
indentation is, just below the Adams apple for a man. Then insert some
tubing so the patient will be able to breath now then remove the object or
repair the broken wide pipe. Using a needle and thread, sew up the stoma
(tracheotomy hole). If airway is blocked due to smoke inhalation
perform the steps above and have the patient drink cool tea made of peppermint & sage
for two days. When the patient can breathe better sew up the stoma
(tracheotomy hole).
