Got Milk?

I do, hehehehe!  Yesterday morning I was tickled to find a few little drops of colostrum on my nipples.  Yippee!  The equipment still works!  It hasn't been that long ago since doctors advised women over 35 (sometimes over 30!) that they were "too old" to breastfeed.  Breasts don't have an expiration date!

A friend here in Istanbul was trying to be helpful today when she offered me her "advice" for what kind of bottles to use and where to buy them.  I think she was somewhat taken aback when I told her that I didn't need bottles, that I have all the baby-feeding equipment I need with milk production already underway.  Besides, the packaging is much more attractive!

Why are some people so squeamish about breastfeeding?  That's what they're for, after all!  You don't hear much outrage over scantily-clad models on the covers of fashion magazines or on highway billboards.  But show that same model, covered in everyday clothes and nursing a baby--whoa, Nellie!  You would think that someone just handed a Playboy to the Pope!

I fully intend to breastfeed this baby whenever and whereever it is necessary.  I refuse to stay home because the baby may need to nurse.  I won't go to the restroom to nurse him/her.  You don't eat in the toilet, why should my baby?  I realize that this may cause some flack in Istanbul, but I will happily champion the cause of nursing in public and educate as many people as possible, not only on the advantages of breastfeeding, but also on the very real risks of artificial baby milks.

So there!
