Jet Lag
Jet lag kills. I'm sure it does. And it must be a slow, painful death, too. We got up at 5:30 yesterday (Friday) morning and left for the airport around 7:00. It took a full 2 hours and then some just to wind through the traffic to get to the airport. Did I mention that our plane was due to leave at 10:00 and we had to go through some of the most ridiculous security checkpoints ever? Ugh! We finally made it to the plane without a minute to spare--they actually had to hold the flight for almost half an hour due to the number of people who were still trying to get through all the check points. Then we had what felt like the longest darn flight of my life. I mean, I've done the flight before, but it's never seemed this long! And I was hungry, having eaten breakfast at the unGodly hour of 6:00 am. We took off nearly an hour behind schedule, and for some reason, this pilot didn't try to make up the time in flight. He was out for a freakin' Sunday drive! ARGH!
We finally got to Chicago around 2:30 their time (10:30 pm to my body), picked up the rental car, then went straight to the hotel. As much as we all wanted to just go to sleep, we knew that if we went to bed so early, we'd be up waaaay too early in the morning. So we managed to grab a bite to eat in the hotel lounge and I talked to my sister for waaaaay too long on the phone, but we managed to drag it out as late as . . . . . 7:30. I was aiming for 9:00, but that just didn't happen. There was no way. So of course, we were all up watching Nick at Nite by 4:00 this morning. There's not much on TV at that hour. We managed to get showered and dressed, luggage repacked, and were in the restaurant for breakfast by 6:15, on the road by 7:30.
We hit the road and landed in St. Louis around noonish, took a brief ride around town, and had a nice lunch at Longhorn's. Then it was back on the road to Springfield, where the first thing we did was hit Wal-Mart, of course! I managed to sleep most of the ride from STL to Springfield and feel much better, but this jet lag may eventually kill me! Why is it so much better going back to Turkiye?
For those of my friends and family who are keeping up, WE'RE HERE! Same phone numbers that we had this summer. See ya'll soon!
