Milk, Feet, and More

Although I usually try to post blog entries in the evening to encompass everything that was done during the day, I've been so tired lately that I've just been vegging out in a semi-comatose state in the evenings.  Of course, that could have something to do with the huge turkey lunches I've been having the last few days, too.

I made it to my first La Leche League meeting Monday evening.  If LLL was around when Meg was a nursling, I sure didn't know about it.  There is a part of me that wishes I was still living in the US, just so that I could attend LLL and connect with other crunchy parents.  Alas, 'tis not to be.  It was an interesting mix of a group, with moms who were nursing toddlers, a couple of newborns, and several of us who are preggers.  Although I can't say that I learned anything that I didn't already know, it was really nice to be in a positive enivronment.  I always feel on my guard about my own parenting beliefs and it was so good to be in a place where everyone shares those same philosophies.  After the meeting, I was able to talk with one of the leaders for a while and I came away with one of each handout that they have.

I also managed to contact the main LLL office Monday morning and talk to them about starting a group in Turkiye and was able to subscribe to the Breastfeeding Resource Center.  Hopefully all those neato resources will arrive to my home in Turkiye shortly after we return.  One of these days, I will get around to developing a website for breastfeeding support in Istanbul and can finally get up and running.

And of course Meg and I had to get pedicures while we were here.  For me, it's a necessity as I can't reach my feet to do it myself anymore.  Plus, when I do manage to do them on my own, I end up with ingrown nails, so it's best to let someone else handle it.  And it just plain feels good, so there!

We are winding up our trip now, trying to get everything packed up to start the trek to Chicago.  We'll be stopping in St. Louis overnight, just to check out some of Ekrem's old haunts, and to find one of the herbal remedies that I couldn't get in Springfield.  Then on Thursday, it's off to Chicago to stay the night and finish the final preparations for the flight back home.  Whew!

It has been a whirlwind trip, trying to fit in everything that we need to get done, as well as some extra stuff.  Hopefully the next time we cross the big pond, we can go a bit more liesurely and have more time to enjoy ourselves--if that's at all possible with a new baby.
