Nesting?
We found a nice crib a few days ago, just down the street from MIL. I happened to see it when we drove by and kept bugging Ekrem to take me back to look at it, which he finally did earlier this week. It is a nice light pine color (not my favorite), with a drop-down side rail and adjustable-height mattress; plus it turns into a daybed when baby gets older. It takes the largest size crib mattress--140 x 70 cm, known in the UK as "cot bed size." Even though it's light pine, the other features make it the best choice out of all the ones I've looked at, so we went ahead and bought it. The delivery guy brought it yesterday, so I spent the day fixing up the "baby's room," formerly known as the "cat's room." Askim is a bit perturbed at the eviction and we are having to keep the door closed to keep her out of it. She was all fine and dandy with having the litterbox moved down to the basement and having her food dish moved to the kitchen, but doesn't like being kept out of "her" windows. Since we came home from the US, Askim has been sleeping with us, so I think she will be okay with not having her own room anymore. Until she gets evicted from our bed when the baby comes!
I started out by moving all the junk out of the room and moving Askim's things. She follwed me as I took her litterbox downstairs to the basement and then her food bowl to the kitchen so she would know where they were going. After I had everything out of the room (except for the overstuffed bookshelf), I cleaned the windows, inside and out. They were filthy! I don't think they had been cleaned since we moved in. After the windows were done, I vacuumed and mopped the floor--twice. It was filthy, too! While waiting for the floor to dry, I begged Ekrem to take me to Ikea so that I could see what they have for crib bedding and to get a new catalog, so we had to walk through the whole store, of course. After we came home, I waxed the floor (unsealed hardwood). Then I ironed the curtains and hung them up. Finally, time to move the crib in, so Ekrem helped me with that and we brought the suitcase with the baby's clothes in it and all the other baby accessories into the room to free up some space in our room and our closet. Now the plan is to get Meg a new dresser to match her new bedroom furniture (walnut) and to take her old dresser (light pine) for the baby. I also still have Meg's old toybox (also light pine), so we will have a fairly coordinated bedroom for the baby without really trying. Not that I actually plan for the baby to spend much time in there, but it's there for when he's ready to have his own room and own space.
After all the work I did yesterday, I feel like a truck hit me today. My back and hips are killing me, moreso than usual! Here's hoping I can get a nice hot bath and a full body massage tonight while Meg is staying overnight at a friend's house!
