Cocuklar Turkiye'de
The adventures of an American woman, raising multicultural children in Turkiye (Turkey)

Mutlu Yillar!

Directly translated from Turkish it means "Happy Years," and is the standard New Year's Greeting.

Well, Askim is over her little "crisis," thank goodness, and is back to her usual devilish self. We really need to think about getting her fixed, but she still seems so young to have it done. We could be completely off on our guesstimate of her age, but not that far, I don't think.

Baby continues to be a party unto himself in the womb. He is constantly movin' and groovin' in there and body parts are starting to be identifiable. I can generally tell which way he is facing and whether I'm palpating a back or a butt or a head. He generally tends to stay transverse (side-to-side), but it's kind of a diagonal transverse if that makes any sense. Here's hoping he decides to stay head-down pretty soon, as he's already a big guy. I don't want him getting stuck in an impossible position.

Big rains came through last night, so our basement is flooded again. We haven't checked upstairs yet, although I'm sure that the roof is leaking up there, too. One of these days we should hear something about the lawsuit and whether the developers will be either forced to fix it or to make financial amends. Either way.

Meg has had six days off from school and I think that she is sufficiently bored enough to be ready to go back. Her big New Year's excitement was getting a new desktop computer. I haven't yet figured out how to hook it up to the wireless router; that's going to entail a trip to Radio Shack, I think. I think it needs either a wireless card or a USB wireless adapter. I was against her having this computer in her room, as it makes it harder to monitor what she is doing, but Ekrem decided that she should have it to help with her school work. (No, he's never had a teenager before--can you tell?) Of course, the first two days she spent in her room watching movies on it.

That's all the news that isn't on this end of the world. I wish there was something more exciting to report, but we haven't even left the house since Saturday. :-)
