  • Boeing Helicopters offer direct sale of 24 Longbow Apache (Nov. 8)

Boeing AH-64D Longbow ApacheBoeing Helicopters have surprise offered to direct sale of 24 AH-64D Longbow Apache attack helicopter. The proposal, which was offered during hot-spot evaluation period of B&FOs for Turkish Attack/Reconnaissance Helicopter tender (ATAK project), had  initially been authorized from US Government. While this proposal is being investigated by UTDI/SSM, the Turkish sources pointed out that this kind of offers may strongly effect the nature of the ATAK tender. Boeing had wanted to dismiss the disadvantage of possible license problems with this proposal as well as taking an advantage in ATAK project by meeting the famous Apache with Turkish Land Aviation pilots before the final decision of UTDI/SSM next February. It is expected that the subject will be discussed during visit of US President Mr. Clinton to Turkey on November, 14th-18th
