  • Klebanov: We do not think Turkey will give the helicopter project to one country (March 8)

Ka-52 AlligatorRussian Deputy Prime Minister Ilia Klebanov welcomed the preliminary results of the attack helicopter procurement tender which were announced on March 6, reported the Anatolia news agency on Tuesday. Russia thinks that the project will not be awarded to one country, he indicated.

Klebanov told a press conference in Moscow that his country's approach to the tender was not limited to "selling weapons to Turkey."

He made remarks along the lines of, "We are inviting Turkey to form a partnership. We want Turkey, Israel and Russia to be partners. We made that offer to Ankara during the recent talks. We have the impression that there will not be one single winner in the bidding process. The result will be more fair than that. I think the project will be divided into two. As you know, the helicopter we are offering is being classified as 'heavy' whereas the Americans' one is 'light'." (Turkish Daily News, Lale Sariibrahimoglu)
