Coast Live Oak Natural Edge Vase

This interesting natural edge Vase measures approximately 8 in diameter by 10 inches high with a wall thickness of ¼ of an inch. The wood is a light eggshell with a dark brown bark, which is intact around the rim. The wood is from a very old (probably 300 years) storm damaged tree. Old trees like this develop beautiful figure and color in the grain. This is a beautiful example. The bowl was cut and finished from a green piece of wood. The natural drying process moves the wood and varies the surface in interesting ways that enhances the form and surface texture. Coast live oak is a favorite wood to work with since the final result is so unpredictable. The finish is a satin gloss tung oil, which has been hand buffed to a fine satin gloss. The piece is signed by the artist
