The Letter
Thursday, September 21, 2000
Dear friends and family,
We are sending this letter to explain why Tim and I are modifying our wedding plans. A health development has caused a postponement in the large wedding ceremony and reception following.
On September 19, 2000, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). The doctors at Fairview Southdale have been wonderful. The most important thing that they have asked us to remember is that this is the most curable form of Leukemia! It is a blessing that the diagnosis has come so early on. The majority of ALL patients go into remission within the first month of treatment. Tim and I have decided to go with the most aggressive form of treatment possible. I have started with my first dosage of chemotherapy today, and should be released from the hospital within four to five days. I will continue my therapy during the next few months as an out-patient (I will not have to stay overnight at the hospital).
We plan to have a small ceremony with our immediate family within the next few weeks. We will renew our vows with everyone present by the summer of 2001, when I will be at full strength for this joyous occasion. Announcements will go out to invite you to this doubly special occasion.
Your thoughts and prayers are so special to us. We all draw strength from your love. Through God, all things are possible.
Our love
to each of you,
Sara
and Tim
