In the Badlands, the Enterprise with Elias Vaughn discovers the lost Bajoran Orb of Memory in a derelect Cardassian freighter. Vaughns experience with orb made him remember his long lost dream of being an explorer, and after helping Colonel Kira save the station from the Jem Hadar, he petitions her for the vacant first officers spot on the station.
Other new station personel include Vaughns estranged daughter Prynn Tenmei, Ro Laren replacing Odo as the new Security Chief, Andorian science officer Thirishar ch'Thane (Known as 'Shar'), and the Jem Hadar 'ambassador' Taran'atar.
