Elias Vaughns career Pre-DS9

Below is a timeline of the major events in the life of Elias Vaughn. Star Trek movies and episodes are included only to provide a point of reference.

I tried to avoid spoilers as much as I could in the various book descriptions, but no such courtesy exists here. If you haven't read the post-finale DS9 books or the Lost Era books in which Elias Vaghn appears and wish to remain unspoiled on the plots- Then read no further! Thou hast been warned!

2273: Admiral James T. Kirk and the U.S.S. Enterprise save the Earth from the approach of the V'Ger probe. (Star Trek: The Motion Picture)

2274-2294: Elias Vaughn is born October 24th, 2274, and is raised on the planet Berengaria VII. He is taught about the stars by his mother, which fuels his early passion for exploration. (Twilight by David R. George III)

2293: The presumed death of James T. Kirk aboard the Enterprise B. (Star Trek: Generations)

2294-2297: Vaughn attends Starfleet Academy and discovers that he has a talent for intelligence and tactical operations. Vaughn gives up his dreams of exploration for a career in Starfleet Intelligence. (Serpents Among the Ruins by David R. George III)

2299: Vaughn retrieves a container with a stolen Linellian Fluid Effigy inside despite still being in the middle of his 10-year desk-bound 'apprentice-ship' with SI.(Avatar book one by S.D. Perry, Serpents Among The Ruins by David R. George III)

2307: Lt. Vaughn begins his career as a field operative. (Serpents Among the Ruins by David R. George III)

Over the next few years Vaughn sharpened his skills of deduction and observation and of memory and strategic thinking in various field ops. Including one in which he shadowed a man suspected in trafficking in stolen Starfleet technology who wound up being innocent (and boring) and one in which he was required to wear prosthetics on his face for several weeks as he infiltrated a Benzite mining operation. He worked extensively with Commander Drysi Gravenor of SI, from whom which Vaughn learned great, many lessons about field operations. (Serpents Among the Ruins by David R. George III)

2311: Vaughn, Gravennor, and Captain John Harriman of the U.S.S. Enterprise B embark on a top-secret operation aboard the Romulan flagship Tomed. Although the details of the assignment must remain forever classified, billions of Federation and Romulan lives are saved as a war between the Federation and the Romulan Empire is averted. 2319: First partners with T'Prynn of Vulcan and the two form a loose partnership that lasts off and on for thirty years. (Lesser Evil by Robert Simpson)

2328: When the Cardassians discover the ancient wreck of Ch'Gran, a ship that the Klingons consider being sacred, on a planet near the Betreka Nebula, war threatens to break out between the two powers. Vaughn attends a Starfleet hosted arbitration in which Starfleet ambassador Curzon Dax proposes a contest between the two powers to see who can best develop the world's resources. Vaughn is very skeptical and says so to Dax. Vaughn also meets Starfleet officer Ian Troi with whom which he begins a friendship. (The Art of the Impossible by Keith R.A. DeCandido)

2336: Vaughn visits Troi, his wife, Lwaxanna and their infant daughter Deanna.(Avatar Book one by S.D. Perry)

Approximately 2340: Vaughn plays a role in the aftermath of the disaster on Arvada III. (Date here is speculation on my part. Beverly Crusher was young, age unspecified, during the events of the Arvada III tragedy. She would have been 16 in 2340. Vaughns participation in the events at Arvada III was mentioned in Avatar Book one by S.D. Perry.)

2343: Vaughn meets Starfleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Stargazer. The two will meet several times over the ensuing years including during a coup on Darnak VII.(The Art of the Impossible by Keith R. A. DeCandido, Divided We Fall by John J Ordover and David Mack)

Vaughn promoted to Lieutenant Commander.

Vaughn and T'Prynn save special Emmissary Raisa Tartovsky from the planet Devniad in Cardassian space. (The Art Of The Impossible by Keith R A Decandido)

2344: Vaughn and Troi return to Betreka where Troi is killed in an explosion caused by Romulan Sabotage. Vaughn is injured and spends several months in rehabilitation. (The Art Of The Impossible by Keith R A Decandido)

2345-2346: After informing Dax of the Romulan involvement at Raknal V, the two team up and discover the truth about Ch'Gran. Soon afterward, the Klingons cede the planet to Cardassia and negotiate for the wreckage thus ending the Betreka Nebula Incident. (The Art Of The Impossible by Keith R A Decandido)

2347: Vaughn meets rival SI agent Ruriko Tenmei on Kora II in Cardassian space. The two were sent to help a Cardassian scientist by the name of Crem Veruda defect to the Federation. Veruda had developed an Artificial Intelligence for Cardassia that would give the Cardassians a significant tactical advantage over the Federation. 2349: T'Prynn dies in a transported accident aboard the U.S.S. T'Plana-Hath. Soon afterward Vaughn and Tenmei become a couple and plan to have a child together.(Lesser Evil by Robert Simpson)

2350: Prynn Tenmei, named after the late T'Prynn of Vulcan, is born to Ruriko Tenmei and Elias Vaughn. Vaughn was away on assignment on the day of Prynns birth. Tenmei takes an indefinite leave from Starfleet. (Lesser Evil by Robert Simpson)

2355: Vaughn is called away from Prynns fifth birthday to help Starfleet deal with a coup on the Elaysian homeworld. This is part of a pattern of Vaughn not being in his daughter's life, as Vaughn would always put the mission above all else. Resentment starts to grow within Prynn concerning her father's constant absences. (Lesser Evil by Robert Simpson)

At some point in Vaughns career he became aware of the rogue agency that calls itself "Section 31", a branch of SI that deals in black ops and the kind of activities that go against everything the Federation stands for. Vaughn joins a small cabal of Starfleet officers who have dedicated themselves to the destruction of Section 31. (Section 31: Abyss by Jeffery Lang and David Weddle)

2364: The Launch of the U.S.S. Enterprise D. (Star Trek: The Next Generation "Encounter at Farpoint")

2367: Vaughn takes part in a classified mission to Alexandras Planet involving Romulans and an Iconian gateway. (Demons of Air and Darkness By Keith R. A. DeCandido)

2369: Commander Benjamin Sisko takes command of Federation starbase Deep Space Nine. (DS9 "Emmisary")

Elias Vaughn is promoted to Commander.

Prynn Tenmei enters Starfleet Academy in part to be closer to her father. (Lesser Evil by Robert Simpson)

On a mission to Uridisi, in order to keep a copy of Crem Verudas AI from falling into the hands of the Borg, Vaughn is forced to send Tenmei on a one-way mission to a Borg ship to ensure that the AI is destroyed. Ruriko Tenmei is believed dead.(Lesser Evil by Robert Simpson)

Prynn blames Vaughn for her mother's death starting a seven-year period in which the two don't even speak.(Lesser Evil by Robert Simpson)

2373: The outbreak of war with the Dominion (DS9 "Call To Arms").

Prynn graduates from the Academy. Her first assignment is to the U.S.S. Mjolner as its conn officer. Later, she is assigned to the U.S.S. Sentinel.
