Portfolio Reflection

Portfolio Reflection

I have always been told as an artist to take a step back from my work every once and a while, and take a look at the “big picture” from a different perspective.  With this advice in mind, I am going to apply the concept to my writing portfolio.

Throughout the past semester, I have read three novels in my Composition class, including Lord of the Flies, Catcher in the Rye, and The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.  Based on these books, I have created diverse writing pieces that I feel have enhanced my skills as a writer.  Although at times writing these pieces was difficult and very time consuming, I am overall proud of the way I have progressed as a writer in the past few months.

As true in art as well as writing, there are always going to be some pieces that are more successful than others.  For me, the The Heart is a Lonely Hunter task three essay is my most unsuccessful portfolio entry.  Although I did work hard on this piece, my dislike for the novel caused a lack of enthusiasm when writing the essay, and I found the process tedious.

By far my favorite writing piece was for the scrapbook I created for my Catcher in the Rye final project portfolio.  The entire project came easy to me because I enjoy creative projects, and I liked Catcher in the Rye so much.  I feel that I did a good job interpreting the meaning of the objects which in turn made the writing flow more easily.  I think that I was very successful at this task and am very happy with the outcome.

I hope you enjoyed my portfolio!
