What are the people concerned about?

Oil and gas well exploration drilling

Can we use section 27 rights to stop fracking?
The General Assembly is in violation of the Constitution, that they have vowed to uphold, by allowing drilling in the Marcellus Shale.

Fuel assistance - I'm hearing that the Public Assistance is swamped with applications for fuel assistance because of the high oil prices.

High taxes - many people really struggle to pay their county and school taxes.

Jobs - Susquehanna county has the third lowest average weekly wage in the state($480/week). A number of people have told me that they've had to quit part time jobs because their wages didn't cover gas money to get to and from work.

Environment - for the people who live near stone quarries, like the New Milford RESCUE folks.
The commissioners talked a little about this during the campaign but the issues are all forgotten after the election.
I am very impressed with some of the initiatives coming from Sullivan County NY, like building a municipal power system based on wind power & using the revenues to create jobs & cut property taxes 5% across the board.
I think ideas like this would get more people interested in county government.
