My
Introduction to Old English: 1976 to 1993 |
I first started in Old English in 1976 when
my son bought home this bedraggled, shaggy lady with a rope tied around her
neck. We washed her, cut out all the knots, fed her as she was so skinny and
then took her to our local vets where we vaccinated & wormed her. Through
our vet we located the owner. This young Old English was so sweet and humble
that we had no option but to name her LADY, for that is
what she was. I finally persuaded the original owners to let my family keep
her and through them I found Lady's breeder and so my life became involved in
this lovely breed.
Lady achieved her Australian Title in a little over 12 months, she was 4 years
old then, Along the way Lady achieved many Group Awards.
Realising that one is never enough, I bought
a lovely bitch from Queensland out of Prospectblue Tom Jones (Imp UK) whom we
called KATIE. KATIE also did a lot of winning including
RUNNER UP TO BEST IN SHOW. Unfortunately her show career
was cut short as she contracted Pyometra and had to be de-sexed.
My husband thought it was about time to
look at introducing a male to our family and so he bought me my darling BEAR
and what a man he was. BEAR was a very gentle boy and
he too attained his Australian Title very quickly with many Class in Group and
Class in SHOW Awards. But as fate would have it, this
too, came to an end. BEAR was a small dog, very sound
with lovely dark eyes but alas to small for the show ring.
It was then that I decided to change my
lines and I bought what was to be my foundation bitch for the Old English bred
at TUVALU over
the past 17 years. GEMMA, Australian Champion Oeshin Setthe
Trend. I then bought in a male, BARTY, Australian Champion Woolchip Glenfiddock
who was a half brother to GEMMA. From
this combination of half-brother & half-sister the TUVALU
lines began.
