The Twist
Chapter 4: Wings Of The Enemy
"You, Filia, will be the first." A shadow approached FIlia, as she slowly looked at hew cast it.
A tall creature stood before her, and drooled on her head. She fell to the ground in shock, as she looked closer at the hideous thing. It was nothing like the other funny creatures. This looked actually threatening.
It's arms were overgrown, as were their legs. Sharp points covered their dark blue body, with dark black clothing. It wore a baggy t-shirt, and ragged, ripped shorts. It's claws hung low, and were incredibly sharp, making Filia shiver. This animal had no tentacles-- only long claws, and horns above their ears. Dark blue hair grew above it's sharp horns, covering some of their tiny eyes. Something hung on it's back, and seemed extremely big. It's eyes were blood-shot red, and stared right into the scared Filia.
"YEAH!! Let's kick some butt, boss!" cheered another scary creature. Although, this was wasn't so smart looking.
"Shut-up you idiot!" yelled the bigger creature.
"So these creatures say more than shfitz sounds..." mumbled Filia, trying to crawl away.
"Where do you think you're going!!" yelled the smart one.
"Umm. Nowhere!" said the alert Filia.
"Gistrin, you can kill her." said the male voiced creature.
"All right!" cheered Gistrin. He moved closer to Filia, and smiled, revealing extremely sharp teeth. "This'll be good..."
"Please, sir." she said crawling back. "Can't we work this out...?" Gistrin kept leaning towards her, and held out his hands, preparing to hold something. With a bright flash, a long spear appeared in his hands, and grew a long blade at one end.
He slashed for Filia, as she jumped up into the air, shocked.
"Now wait just a minute!" she shrieked.
"HIYA!" yelled Gistrin, as he leaped for Filia.
Filia reacted quickly, and pulled out the mace Xelloss gave back to her.
"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!" she screamed, as she bashed the creature in the face.
It fell backwords, and landed at the feet of the other scary creature.
"Hmm. So you have a weapon too." he said un-amused. "Then face me!" he jumped into the air. The pack on his back burst open, revealing dark blue wings, that shed blue feathers.
Filia glared, shocked, and started to run. What could she do? Her mind went frantic, and she turned to the flying creature. With her mace held high, she loosened the tip, and swung it until a chain extended her weapon. She twirled it, sure she wouldn't hit herself, and walked towards the charging threat. She knew exactly what to do now.
The creature looked down at her, with no expression on it's face. It didn't seem amused, nor un-amused. No emotion was shown from the hideous, and yet beautiful thing.
Filia twirled her mace as fast as she could, and she attatched another chain on the end of the weapon's handle. She continued swinging, and leaned back for more strength, as she whipped the mace at the flying creature.
It flung fast threw the air, by the extension Filia added. The chain was near it's end, as it struck the creature in the chest, knocking it out of the air. Filia held the handle, as the  chain came to an immediate stop, with the screw at the end of the extended chain.
The creature fell, and fell, with it's blue wings falling with it. It hit the ground with a sharp fall, and there was silence.
Filia watched to see movement in the creature, but none came out. She hung her head, saddened by destroying something with such beautiful wings.
"It wanted to kill you. It was the right thing to do." said a familiar voice.
"It was so beautiful, though." sighed Filia.
"Yes, but what about the others?" asked the appearing Xelloss.
"Right.. Hehe... I forgot about those...." laughed Filia. Then she fell silent.
"Ok, ok. I'll handle it then." said Xelloss.
Filia smiled, and stepped back. She patted him hard on the back with a smile on her face. "Have fun!"
"Right...." Xelloss stepped towards the fallen creature, as it's wings folded back into it's pack. "How could these wings be on such a monster.....?"
"Boss!" cried Gistren. He knelt beside the dead creature, and held it, as it vanished with each touch. Gistren glared evily up at Xelloss, then at the watching Filia. "My master will get you....You just watch." he said, then disappeared.
"Damn." cursed Xelloss, as he watched him vanish.
"Shfitz!!!!!!!!!" roared the spedo wearing creatures. Xelloss looked at them, and smiled. "These guys are easy!" he laughed.
They charged at him, and Xelloss held out his staff with both of his hands. It shone bright infront of him, and then blasted with energy, knocking everything over, except Filia and Xelloss.
The blast cleared, as Xelloss walked towards Filia out of the smoke, with a smile on his face. He proudly strut his way over to the awaiting Filia, glad of his victory.
  Filia nodded approvement.
Xelloss frowned, noticing Filia didn't care of his voctory. "Tough crowd." he mumbled.
"His wings were beautiful.... but why...?" she whispered, leaning against a large boulder.
Xelloss walked closer to her, and watched the sadness in her face. He didn't understand how she could be upset after killing an enemy.
He sat down next to where Filia was standing, realizing that they'd be there for awhile, and Filia did the same. She buried her face in her arms and knees, and cried, internally.
It was still dark, and cold, with the stars still shining bright. This was the most time Xelloss has spent with Filia, and it had felt awkward when she was around. He didn't know what he was thinking, and leaned on the rock to think.
"Why are you here, Xelloss." asked the quiet Filia.
Xelloss looked at her, and saw her looking at the very distant Fire Dragon Temple.
"Whenever I'm with you, it's always the same reason you have, Filia." he replied smoothly.
  This shocked Filia.
"There's no way I'd be with you unless I had to! And your threat relates to mine!" he grinned.
Filia growled at Xelloss. He'd insulted her.
"Good enough reason for you?" he asked poking her arm with his elbow.
  Filia resisted to yell. "Sure."
Xelloss backed off. She wasn't going to have fun with him tonight. Not today, anyway.
"Do you think that big light from before had a connection to this thing? You know, the one that was on the cliff I met you by?" she asked.
"Absolutely." he said putting down his staff. "I looked at it closer while you were asleep, and it seems to be the entrance to our enemy's fortress."
  "Great..." sighed Filia.
"Don't worry. We'll get this over with soon enough."
"And when we do, I'll be able to get rid of you once and for all!" laughed Filia.
  "Right........."
They sat for awhile admiring the scenery, until Xelloss' attack clearly disappeared.
"Ugh. It smells again!" complained Filia.
Xelloss stood up, and walked wiped himself off.
"Where are you going?" asked the sitting Filia.
"Well, if you don't want to smell, I suggest you join me. I'm going to inspect that cliff again."
"I'll gladly tag along, just as long as I keep my clothes on." she let out a light laugh, with Xelloss joining in.
"Don't worry. We'll save that for later."
  "Ok."
  ...........
"What do you mean later?!?!?!" argued Filia.
"Hey, you're the one that said ok! So there better be a later!"
  "You pervert!"
"Look who's talking! I know what you think about me!" xelloss tried not to laugh to his upcoming joke.
  "What?!?!"
"We all know how you feel about me, Filia. There's now reason why you should hide it."
"What the hell are you saying!!!?!?!!!!" yelled Filia.
"Xelloss this.... Xelloss that... I know all you're thoughts, Filia." he joked.
  "Shut-up you jerk!
"Oh? So it's true?" he laughed.
Filia turned red. "NO! It's NOT true!!"
  "You're sure now..."
  "Yes!"
  "So you
do like me?"
"No! I mean yes! I mean NO!"
"Which one is it, Filia...." he smiled, putting his arm around her.
"UGH! Get off of me you creep!" she pushed him away, only making him laugh more.
"Hey, you're the one that said yes." he laughed.
  "Shut up!"
Xelloss continued laughing, as Filia walked on angrily.
How dare he! Thinking she liked a monster! Ugh!
It was all too funny for the trickster. He loves when his little tricks work.
They walked separately, toward the cliff where they met. Xelloss giggled once and awhile, and Filia called him a jerk every single time he did.
The sun was slowly coming up, creating a pink sky, with pink clouds.
Filia looked up at the sky, as they continued walking in the almost deserted lands. She smiled, as she saw things float by with her imagination. She saw a boat, a kyte, a mace, a dragon...
  *Thump*
Xelloss silently laughed, as he walked over to help up the fallen Filia. She was distracted by the pink coulds above her, that she didn't notice the rock infront of her.
"Ow.... That hurt.... huh?" she looked up at Xelloss, who held out his hand to help her.
  "Can I help?" he smiled.
Filia blushed at his smile. His face shone with the sunset behind him, and his hair fell down, shadowing his mysterious, closed eyes. "Thank you..." she blushed.
"I don't hate you, Filia." he said balancing her out. "I just love it when you're mad."
"Yeah.... that's what I'd expect from a monster. Anger attra--" she paused realizing her own words. "--anger attracts them...."
"I guess you can put it that way." he shrugged, as he turned to walk again. "But it's not only anger, that attracts a monster." he said over his shoulder.
This caught Filia's attention. "Then what does... attract a monster...?" she asked suspiciously.
"Hmm?" said the shocked Xelloss. Why would she want to know that? He smiled, and simply said, "That's a secret, Ms. Filia."
Filia growled at hearing that phrase, but continued walking side by side with Xelloss.
"This is going to be a long walk...." sighed the monster. "Maybe we should stop somewhere for your sake."
"Hey! I can handle as much as you can!" she hissed.
"Oh! Sorry! I forgot! I guess you can kill another winged creature again then, huh." he joked.
  Filia fell silent.
Xelloss noticed he hit a soft spot, and quickly apologized.
"I just don't understand how a monster could be so beautiful...."
"All monsters are beautiful, Filia." smiled Xelloss. "You just have to find what they're beautiful in!"
  "Hah! Now
that, I can't believe! There's no way you could ever be that beautiful!"
"Hmph! I'm not kidding Filia. That monster had beautiful wings, but an ugly body. Nice voice, but bad words. Good strength, but wasted."
Filia slightly nodded. "I guess you're right...."
  "I know I am."
Filia looked sideways at Xelloss, and poked him in the side, tickling him. "Don't push it!" she smiled.
Xelloss covered his side defensively, and smiled back. He repeated the words he said, and told himself those words. Everyone's beautiful. He looked at the smiling Filia, and smiled. Dragon's aren't as limited as monsters are with looks, or emotions. She's beautiful, and charming, at the same time.
Xelloss looked away, as he realized he was falling for his companion, Filia....
