Sue: You're right. I think our pastor does need to get some new shirts. Maybe we should start a fund!

Karen: Oh, that would be a great idea! The "Dress the Pastor fund". Lord knows if we're going to keep him poor, we should at least help him look presentable, although he should only wear those shirts in church.

Sue: That's a great idea! Then they'll last longer!

Karen: Oh, my goodness! Look at the time! Bobby is coming to visit me, today.

Sue: He is? That's wonderful. How is his.. uh.. Banking career going?

Karen: He wrote me about three months ago, and said things were going very well, and that .. uh.. profits were up, up, up! I guess he’s a part of a team that is specifically targeted at bringing in new money.

Sue: Wow. That’s a lot of responsibility.

Karen: He said that there is a lot of preparation involved in "approaching" potential "customers", but that if you plan well, "deposits" continue to come in!

Sue: That's great. And he's already able to come and visit you?

Karen: From what he says, his job is somewhat sporadic. Some weeks he's really busy, out there working the "customers", and other times, he stays behind the scenes. I think he's looking for a new job, something more regular.

Sue: Has he had any problems with the bank robberies out that way? I've heard that they just busted a gang that was robbing all kinds of banks.

Karen (hesitant, uncomfortable): No, he's not really had a problem with that. (changing subject) Uh, Did I show you the Mother's day card he sent me? He mailed it last Monday to make sure it got here, and he's still coming to visit!

Sue: How thoughtful!

Karen: Yes, Bobby is such a nice boy!

Sue: Especially after such a troubled youth. You've really done well with him, after, well.. you know...

Karen: Go ahead and say it: He was a shoplifter. But, I think getting caught and spending 90 days in jail has had a big impact on him, and he's "moved past that" now.

Sue: Well, that's nice to hear.

(Off stage, sirens sound, Police light? enter bobby in prisoner suit)

Bobby: Mom!

(Sue in shock)

Karen: Bobby! It's so nice of you to come visit me on mother's day.

Bobby: I couldn't pass up on an opportunity to see you, today, although, I might miss the next couple of years, unless you come visit me. I'l going to be, uh, tied up for a while.

Karen: Of course, Bobby. You just let me know where you settle down, and I'll come see you often, OK?

Bobby: Thanks, mom. I knew I could count on you. I can't stay, though...

(Police bullhorn): Come out with your hands up!

Bobby: I gotta go (kiss on cheek?) I'm gonna use the back door, OK? (Bobby exit.)

Karen: That's fine, Bobby. I love you honey!

Sue: I thought you said that... uh... How are we going to raise money for that Dress the Pastor fund? (lights down)
