The Simpsons
|
In the popular television cartoon, The Simpsons, there is a sort of family that is both a model of today’s family, and also an exaggeration of what it is like in the home. We see a father that is not very intelligent and extremely naïve married to a woman who seems to be the opposite. Their kids range in personality from Bart, a misfit little boy who constantly gets into trouble and is pretty much the image of his father (but with potential to learn if he chooses), to Lisa an intellectual musician who is far too studios to associate with her brother. Then there is Maggie, the baby of the family, who is unaware of the reality of the world. This family tests their relationships in every episode, but they can’t live without each other, so there is always acceptance of each other’s flaws. This show portrays family like many are, sibling rivalry that results in children of differing personalities and husband and wife that have differing viewpoints on how to live and earn money. The cartoon does add humor to the family by over exaggerating the situations but, in essence, captures the main characteristics of the average family.
