Donna learns the truth of David's summer when she gets Nicki Witt, who is a sophomore. Kelly changes her schedule to stay away from Dylan-who is bonding with Jim. Steve protects his dorky freshman pal named Herbert. The new faculty advisor, Gil Meyers dubs Brandon the editor of the paper, which enrages Andrea. Eventually, the three strike a deal.

Steve is tempted by a 'legacy key' which unlocks every door and filing cabinet in the school. David plans to graduate early with the rest of the gang.

Kelly and Dylan bond, both disgusted of all the college talk. When Andrea wants to apply to Yale, Gil Meyers' disaproval stands in her way. Steve is caught by the greedy janitor breaking into the building at night and finds himself paying blackmail. Images of his step-sister in the shower derail David's relationship with Donna.

With the love triangle on his mind, Dylan hits the road when the board denies his appeal regarding the SAT and he bonds with a wealthy horse owner. Donna forces Kelly and Brenda to make up. Andrea looks at the legacy key case pessimistically and when David fires Steve as his manager, he confesses to Mrs. Teasley. Brandon grows jealous when Nicki encounters an abusive boyfriend who still has power over her, and this puts an end to their relationship.

David is depressed when his mother moves to Oregon and he decides to graduate early with everyone else.

Dylan is shocked to learn his father is being released from prison.

Brandon and Steve call upon Nat to hook them up with a bookie. After getting accepted to Yale, Andrea uses Donna's fashion sense to re-do her hair.

Donna retrieves Kelly's wallet from a mischievous classmate. Dylan stays behind to retake his SAT, Steve because of detention and Brandon to work. The three end up getting used by a conniving con artist with many aliases.
