Magnus spent his early teen years with his family in a Nazi death camp in Auschwitz. He was the only member of his family to survive. Having experinced how humans react to and treat people who are different he swore to conquer the human race and make them subservient to mutants. Magnus married named Magda after the war, and the two had a daughter: Anya. When a mob prevented Magnus from saving his daughter from dying in a fire, he used his powers to destroy them. Magda fled, fearing his power and his threats against humanity.
Eventually Magnus travelled to Israel, where he worked as an orderly in a psychiatric hospital. Here he met and became friends with Charles Xavier. The two frequently debated mutants co-existance with humans. After the two used their powers to save a friend from danger, Magnus disappeared for a time. He was betrayed by an intelligence agency he worked for, and this reinforced his view on humans and he began to plot his revenge.
p>Years later Magnus returned under the name Magneto, determined to conquer the human race to prevent their oppression of mutants. Over the years Magneto and his band of mutants have clashed many times with Xavier and the X-Men. In his last battle with the X-Men, Magneto used his power to rip the adamantium from Wolverine's body. This enraged Xavier who used his psychic abilities to shutdown Magneto's mind. Magneto was taken by an old ally group of his to an orbitting base to heal. He eventually returned to Earth and began his campaign against humans again. |
