Tweety Bird was born November 21, 1942. The creation of Bob Clampett, Tweety was originally pink and named Orson. "Orson" first appeared in "A Tale of Two Kitties". It was in this cartoon he** coined the phrase "I tawt I taw a puddy tat!" After censor complaints, Tweety was changed from pink to yellow.

Tweety was not paired with his feline preditor, Sylvester, until 1947, when they appeared together in "Tweetie Pie". Bob Clampett started the project, then turned it over to Friz Freleng to complete. "Tweetie Pie" was the first Warner Bros. cartoon to win an Oscar. |

The lovable Tweety has appeared in 40+ cartoons, co-starred in the hit movie "Space Jam", on April 27, 1998, appeared on a 32 cent commemorative stamp with Sylvester, and, most recently, can be seen in an MCI commercial trying to convince Larry Bird they are related. (Well, they do have the same last name!)
**The subject of Tweety Bird's gender has been a controversial issue among Tweety fans everywhere! Please sign my guestbook and include your opinion. I will publish your comments on a future page. Thanx :) |
