Comments: This reading was performed for President Bill Clinton and the First Lady, Hillary, on January 19, 2000, after the Monica Lewinsky scandal and while Mrs. Clinton was running for a Senate seat.
Numerical theme Seven - introspection, reevaluation period, reflecting on growth and progress
The reading: The first two cards suggest that each person sees the other as moving away from the relationship. He sees her as perfecting her craft, honing her talents and moving in a new direction, particularly with regard to career (8 of Diamonds). Perhaps he sees her political aspirations as a raise or promotion from her current status. She sees him as outgrowing the relationship (8 of Hearts). She believes he desires greener pastures, that he is missing something in the relationship and is already moving away, at least emotionally.
The Jack of Spades shows his infidelity and betrayal. Unconsciously, he feels he has done battle for a long time and has experienced a long and difficult struggle. He feels wary and cautious about relationships in general and he may have his guard up, not really trusting anyone. She is consciously trying to transition away from the perevious difficulties and put the memory of her husband's infidelity behind her (6 of Spades). Unconsciously, she feels trapped and confined (8 of Spades). She may feel unable to leave the relationship or that she cannot make the changes she wants to make. The 8 of Spades also suggests that unconsciously she is relenquishing her power.
His true desire is to build a solid foundation in their relationship (3 of Diamonds). He feels he has learned his lessons and wants his family to be a team again. Her desires are focused on her aspirations; she is interested in being a powerful woman in charge (Queen of Clubs). She desires recognition and social contacts more than love and affection. Perhaps this desire for external power balances the power she unconsiously feels she is giving up in the relationship (8 of Spades).
He can improve their relationship by being flexible and adaptable and learning to accept change and transition. The Queen of Spades represents a very solitary woman whose difficulties have helped to strengthen her but they have also isolated her emotionally. This Queen represents a woman of immense intelligence and personal power with very high standards. She is typically a person who doesn't need other people. This Queen suggests that the she needs to put the painful past behind her and to become strengthened by her difficulties, not embittered by them.
The President's cards are mostly Diamonds and the First Lady's are mostly Spades, suggesting that his focus is on security and financial issues, while her focus is on problems, worries and restrictions. His numerical theme is 6 which relates to responsibility and duties to home and family, and transition from the past to a brighter future. Her numerical theme is 10 which relates to starting over on a new level.
