TIFFANY LAING: ++++++++++++++ By Mark Weber Singer Tiffany Laing has tasted secular success, having sung hit duets (“Spend My Life With You” and “Georgy Porgy”) with neo-soul R&B balladeer Eric Benet, but now she’s singing inspirational R&B on her new Twelve Tribes Music solo release, “The Naked Truth.” Growing up in New Jersey, Laing first began singing and modeling at age four. Years later, she shared the stage as a vocalist with R&B greats Frankie Beverly & Maze, Erykah Badu, and D’Angelo. All of her past performing experiences have helped Laing prepare for going solo, and she choose to honor the Lord by singing for Him, about Him and to Him on “The Naked Truth.” ‘Truth’ is, Laing loves God and wants to share it with others. Making what could be described as neo-soul gospel music, Laing offers up urban grooves with smooth vibes and clear hooks on “The Naked Truth.” “Chajah” takes advantage of a Latin beat and Wayne Reed’s salsa guitar work as Laing smoothly proclaims that faith in God wards off Satan’s attacks. “I shall live and not die,” she proclaims at the end of the chorus to “Chajah.” Meanwhile, Laing’s pretty voice is beautifully illuminated on “Send Me,” with its spare quiet storm sound. In contrast, the funk meter is turned up on “Right On Time,” which features the kind of beat you’ll shake your shoulders to as you get your groove on. “I pray that my music will be a breath of fresh air to the music industry, where anyone and everyone can get a sense of freedom and hope,” says the singer. Combining elements of jazz, R&B, hip-hop and traditional gospel, Laing is able to bring forth several emotions on “The Naked Truth.” Producer Lew Laing (Coolio, Helen Baylor, Gospel Gangstaz) serves as a deft co-producer and co-arranger of this stylish collection of soulful songs.
