TECW, as their official website clearly states, was formed on August 4th 2001. Under the guidence of TWF Veteran Marz, the aim of TECW was destroy the TWF. And they have been very unsuccessful, wouldn't you agree?
TECW's roster began building, and by September of that year, they were quiet a serious contender to the TWF's crown. More surprising however, was that it's very first member was a young lad known as 'Underfire'. Underfire has become far more successful however, for being called The Shott. However, that plan that Marz was so good at assembeling fell apart, when rather ironically, he was given the Chairmanship of the TWF. Marz was given the chairmanship as Mr. Edwards decided he needed time off to sort out some of his personal ideals and felt the pressures of being TWF Chairman were unneccessary. And that, was perhaps the strangest move ever.
But, this worked more in the TWF's advantage. Together with TWF CEO Mr. BIG, Marz carried the TWF to the VERY top, in fact, to heights people never thought they would reach. TECW, took a back seat. However, TECW still had contracted talent. In May 2002, Marz was displaced as TWF Chairman, and the original chairman, Mr. Edwards, got his seat back. Marz was on one hand pissed, but on the other, remarkably pleased.
Marz used the knowledge he gained of the TWF to produce a plan. At around the same time that the TWF was gaining more and more respect among internet fans, particularly with the launch of the TWF Web and later TWF Discussion Forums, TECW's site was being launched and Marz launched his own Discussion Forums. The TWF sued for copyright twice, because the templates were identical and the board names were extremely similar. However, they were twice hacked. Once by the TWF and once by High Voltage, gaining revenge for what happened when the TWF Forums themselves were deleted by Marz.
Through out the summer of 2002, Marz and The Shott decided to advance their masterplan, but buying a rather small stake in the upcoming RWF, owned by High Voltage. Although on many occasions the stake worked in their favour, the RWF held one show before coming to an abrupt holt. Yet again, Marz and The Shott were back to square one.
In September 2002, Marz and Shottie launched a massive offensive, by trying to buy contracts of several highly regarded superstars; such as Bret Hart, Bill Goldberg and Macho Man Randy Savage. However, their main signing was Stone Cold Steve Austin, who had left the WWE just months previously. However, the TWF uncovered these as complete bullshit and TECW was again back to the drawing board.
TECW then held their first major PPV, entitled 'King of Hardcore', and claimed to have moved ahead of the TWF in the war between the two promotions. To be perfectly honest, that was not true. Will TECW take advantage of this gained momentum and go to the top or will the TWF come from behind to kick some serious ass? (I think the latter will prevail myself)...
Well, it appears that TECW may have taken my advice. On October 28th, Total Extreme Championship Wrestling announced that they would be renaming with imeadiate effect to...ncW. Nuclear Championship Wrestling. All use of the TECW initals will be phased out and the organization (much like the WWE did earlier in the year) will now change to ncW.
ncW's new year didn't get off to the best of starts as it was revealed on January 8th that an unknown Chinese man had hacked into their forums and had been using it for his own purposes. Marz then moved the forums from SuddenLaunch to ProBoards in March of 2003. He then deleted the boards during June so no-one could hack his forums. The NCW Staff took the oppertunity of Marz's vacation to announce their departure. The biggest names to go were The Assassin and Ben Shottle, who shocked the world and joined the RWF behind Marz's back. On June 25th 2003, NCW announced it was scaling down opperations to a close by the end of the year. The TWF breathed a huge sigh of relief and it appears that the TWF may have 'lost' the battle, but have definitely won the war.
NCW left a legacy, but the wrong kind of one. They claimed to have all the firepower in the world, but the brains of staff such as Mr. BIG, NJS, Mr. Edwards and MD Doug Edwards outsmarted NCW and in the end, they were simply beaten to such a point, where they could no longer be a profitable company. May NCW R.I.P. - Rot Into Pieces.
