Emma's Baby.

by Rhona Highet

She sat staring at it for hours. Pregnant, how could she be pregnant. She had been careful hadn’t she? For Emma Frost this had come as a big shock. She had never really wanted children, never thought about it before except as a child but that was what most little girls thought about. Now she was carrying a new life and she was so confused with nobody to talk to at the school.

Yeh, I can just hear Jubilee now "when I was with the X-Men........" She thought to herself

The X-Men?

It had only just occurred to her that she could talk to the X-Men as most of the women had had children. Rogue had 2 girls aged 1, Psylocke had a boy aged 2, Jean had a 3 month old son and Storm had recently announced her own pregnancy. It was at the party to celebrate the announcement that she got herself into this mess. *Well I should be able to talk to at least one of them* She said to herself as she picked herself up out of her seat and put on her coat, shoving the pregnancy test results into her pockets before she walked out of the room.

*Sean are you there?*

*No Emma, I’ve moved to Muir Island. Of course I’m here.*

*I’m going out for a while. Do you think this building could still be in one piece when I come back?*

*Ach Em you’ve got nothing to worry about.*

*Thanks Sean* She replied as she got into her car and headed for the X Mansion.

"Identify yourself." came an artificial voice.

"Frost, Emma. ID, 140272 Alpha."

"Identity confirmed, you may enter."

The gates of the mansion parted letting her in. She walked up the path and in the front door. For a second she thought about turning back. Forget about the pregnancy until nature reminded her of it? No. She couldn’t deny or hide this one. Opening her mind, she scanned the house for someone to talk to. Jean was the first to react being a telepath as well. Locking on the other telepath’s position, Emma wandered into the kitchen. Jean was sitting at a table with a cup of coffee in one hand and what looked like a report in the other.

"Hello Jean."

"Emma, what brings you here?"

"I need to talk to you. I think I need to talk to all the women here." She replied not hiding the urgency in her voice.

"What? Have you been sleeping with all the guys here?" Jean joked but it was lost on Emma.

"I’m being serious!" She shouted as tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Emma, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you."

"It’s okay, I just need to talk."

"What’s all the hallerin’ about?"

"Emma needs to talk." Jean replied.

"Hello Rogue."

Rogue turned and looked at the telepath. She noticed that Emma had been crying.

"Y’all right Emma?"

"I......."

"Hey Rogue, you just missed.............Oh, hi Emma."

"Betsy........Storm."

"Well, we’re all here. Now what is it you wanted to tell us?"

"Not here Jean."

"Could someone please explain what’s goin’ on." Rogue asked.

"I think we shall find out soon." Storm replied.

"Okay Emma, we’re far from the mansion. So what’s the problem?"

"I’m pregnant." She put the test results onto the table for the other women to see. She lowers her head to avoid all the looks.

"So?" Rogue finally asks.

"I.....I don’t know. I needed to talk to someone. I thought you’d all think I was a slut. Me being pregnant and unmarried." "Gambit an’ Ah weren’t married when Ah was pregnant with the twins. Storm ain’t married. What’s the problem?" "You’ll think differently when you know who the father is." "Emma, you do not need to tell us if you don’t want to." Storm interrupted.

"I want to tell you but I’m scared."

"Maybe you should tell one of us and the rest when you feel up to it."

"No. I’ve got to get this out into the open. Beast is the father."

"Hank?!" Psylocke says.

Emma nods her head.

"Are going to tell him?" Jean asks.

"I don’t know."

"Sugah, don’t tell him. If ya do it gives him time to run. Trust me, Ah know."

"Did Gambit run from you when he found out you were pregnant?"

"The silly boy hid in his room for two weeks." Storm replied.

All the women giggled.

"What was Scott’s reaction?"

"He fainted."

"Storm, how did Forge take the news?" Rogue asked.

"He seemed quite happy, shocked but happy."

"And Warren?" Jean asked.

"Left the country. Said he had to think about it."

"Then I suppose I should tell Hank."

"He does have a right to know." Jean added.

Rogue looks around the table at all the other ladies.

"Right, now that’s over with Ah think we should all go shopping."

Nobody protests.

All five women arrive back at the mansion at midnight. Storm goes to her room, drained of all energy. Jean soon follows Storm. The remaining three women walk into the kitchen and sit at the table.

"That was fun. ’Specially when that guy hit on Jean an’ Jean hit back!" Rogue said.

"I don’t know Rogue. You fighting the Friends of Humanity was quite amusing. Emma?"

"I think I’m going to be sick." She replied as she put both hands over her mouth and ran to the nearest bathroom.

"I don’t miss that part of pregnancy." Betsy said dryly as she turned back to Rogue. "Do you think we should tell her all the other horrible things that come with pregnancy or leave it as a surprise?"

"Ah think we should give her all the support we can." "Alright, you tell her about the Caesarean and I’ll tell her what drugs to take."

"Maybe we should leave it all to Hank."

"Probably better we do that."

Both women walk out the kitchen and follow the noise to the nearest bathroom.

"Emma, are you okay in there?"

"I’m fine Betsy.............blaaaaaaaaahhhhhh..........oh God, is this the worst of it?"

"Nah, there’s still the birth." Rogue shouted of the vomiting sounds.

"I don’t think I can take much more of this."

"Don’t worry. Ya’ll be fine."

"Is there a problem ladies?" Hank McCoy commonly known as the Beast asked.

Oh great Emma thought, just what I need right now. "Eh, nothing." Psylocke answered. "Emma’s just been sick in the toilet."

"Oh, are you alright Emma?"

"Well, eh, er."

"Ah think Ah hear Remy calling me." Rogue said as she ran up the stairs closely followed by Psylocke. Emma sat beside the toilet, going through her options. She could tell Beast now and get it over with or she could say she was drunk and tell Hank another day. She chose the first option. She washed her face and straightened her clothes before leaving the bathroom. The big, blue scientist stood, waiting for an explanation.

"Hank, you better sit down."

Both go into the deserted kitchen and sit down. Emma’s gaze is focussed on the ground while Hank’s eyes are locked on the telepath. "I’m pregnant Hank."

"Congratulations!"

"You’re the father."

"Oh dear."

For a long time neither spoke. Both looked down at the floor. "I take it this was from the night that you and I were intoxicated at the celebration of Ororo’s pregnancy."

"Yes." She whispered.

"This does present a problem."

"Maybe I should leave."

"This is very awkward."

"Hank, I don’t expect you to do anything. I just thought you had a right to know."

"Thank you Emma. I’m glad you told me. Are you going to tell anybody else?"

"Actually, Jean, Ororo, Betsy and Rogue already know."

"Oh dear."

"I’m sorry. I really needed to talk to someone."

"Well, at least it is out in the open. This way rumours won’t start.

Have you told Sean?"

"No. I was hoping to avoid that one as long as possible."

"Well, I don’t think you can avoid him forever."

"I guess not. I’ll probably be ridiculed by my students. Hank, would you like a boy or a girl?"

"I’m not sure."

"Neither am I." She looks at Hank for a second. "I better leave before it gets too dark."

"Emma."

"Yes?"

"Thank you for being honest."

"Good night Hank."

She gets into her car as Hank closes the door of the mansion and drives back to Snow Valley.

It was about 4 am when Emma Frost arrived home. Everyone had gone to their beds apart from Paige Guthrie. She had been pining the loss of Jonothan Starsmore for the past 3 weeks. He was back in London for his father’s funeral and had stayed on to take care of his mother. Most nights Paige would sit and wait for Jono to call but he hadn’t called at all. Emma had asked her why she did this and Paige said she didn’t know why. Tonight she saw her student in her usual place but instead of the phone she was holding a letter. "I take it Mr Starsmore has bothered himself long enough to write."

"Miss Frost, Ah didn’t here you come in." Paige replied as she turned to face her teacher. "So, is it from Jonothan?"

"Yes."

"And?"

"He’s going to stay in England for a couple more weeks. He says his mother really needs him an’ that maybe Ah should join him."

For a moment Emma can’t understand why Paige isn’t jumping up and down for joy but the young student soon clears her confusion.

"Ah hate him. One minute it’s ’I’ve got to go gel, my parents need me.’ Then it’s ’Hey Paige, why don’t you come an’ join me.’ Well Ah’m not goin’ to run every time he snaps his fingers. Ah’m not his servant an’ Ah ain’t his wife. He can find a ........"

"You’re drunk."

"Not really Miss Frost. If Ah was drunk, Ah’d be saying things Ah’d regret later."

"Go to bed Paige."

"Night Miss Frost."

"Good morning would be more accurate." Emma whispered under her breath as Paige Guthrie, the mutant known as Husk, left the room, dropping the letter in the wastepaper basket as she went out the door. Emma stood up from where she had been kneeling and retrieved the discarded piece of paper. Gently, she unfolded it and began to read it.

Dear Paige,

how are you? I hope you’re fine. I’m going to be spending a few more weeks here because my mother’s still pretty upset. I’ve managed to get you a ticket to come to London. I hope you accept it.

Jono

"You’re so lucky Paige. I just wish you’d realise it." Emma sighed to herself.

She folded the letter carefully and placed it in the nearest drawer. After a while she went up stairs to her room, stopping in the girls’ dorm to check on Paige and the rest of the students. All were asleep. She went up another flight of stairs and walked along the corridor to her room. Opening the door and flicking on the lights, she took off her jacket and placed it carefully on the chair at her dressing table. She took off her clothes until she was in her underwear and looked at herself in the mirror. The baby was not large enough to be visible yet but in 3 or 4 months time, the child would begin to expand her waist. Emma giggled at the thought of having her belly sticking out. Another thought of her actually holding the infant made her cry. To have her own son or daughter to take care of was a surprising comfort to Emma. Five years ago the child would have been an inconvenience but now it would be a welcome addition to her life. With the students getting on with their own lives and Sean spending more time with Moira and Theresa, Emma had found herself more and more alone. Children seemed to be a bigger issue for her now. Maybe, subconsciously, she was looking for an available man to give her what she wanted and with Bobby gone she went for the next available man, Hank McCoy. She respected Hank and had found that she actually cared for the Beast as much as she cared for the other X-Men but she didn’t think she actually loved him enough to have a family with him.

*But he has got beautiful fur and such a perfect smile.* She looked down at her belly. *I hope you have your father’s intelligence, wit and smile. I wouldn’t wish my temper on anyone or my great personality. I’m going to make sure you have a happy childhood and that you grow up never wanting for anything. I’ll make sure that no one ever hurts you.* She stopped and looked at her reflection for a minute.

Trish is going to kill me. She thought suddenly.

With a sigh, Emma turned the light off and slipped in to the king-sized bed that dominated her main sleeping area. Tucking herself underneath the quilt, she allowed herself to think about what the baby was going to look. The thought gently lulled her to sleep and into her dreams.

It was midday when she woke up. She scanned the estate for the others and found them out in the biosphere having a picnic. Rising out of bed, she walked into her bathroom and cleaned herself up. As she dried off her face, she walked into her closet to find a dress to wear. It was late August but it was a warm day and Emma felt like wearing something that wasn’t white. A floral dress would suit her just now or something in summer colours. Finding nothing like that, Emma put on a pair of jogging pants and a sweater. She looked at herself in the mirror and was almost on the ground laughing her head off. She took off the sweater and pants and put on one of her suits. This looked far more acceptable and so she went to join the others in the biosphere. Today was going to be the day she told the team. It would probably destroy any respect they had for her but she didn’t mind.

Most of the team were sitting by the stream with two exceptions, Paige and Jubilee. The first did not surprise Emma at all as Paige had grown more and more unsocial since Jono’s departure and she had been drinking too. It was a problem that Emma was going to have to talk to Mrs Guthrie about or maybe Sam before it got out of hand. However, Jubilee not being at a social gathering was like a kid’s party without a clown. She was always there, entertaining her classmates. For her not to be there was unusual.

"Hello Em, dinnae expect to see you here." Sean chirped as he offered her a seat and a glass of fruit juice. She took the seat and the juice and looked around at the pupils. Penance was watching a butterfly, Skin was trying to get Monet soaking wet and Synch was watching Penance. She then looked at Sean.

"Where are Jubilee and Paige?"

"They went for a walk. Paige wanted to ask Jubilee something."

"Hmm, sounds serious."

"Ach, y’know Paige, she tries to act like an adult but she’s still just a kid."

"How did you reach that conclusion?" She asked.

To her, what Sean just said seemed to make sense.

She just didn’t know why.

"Look at it this way, she’s always wanted to be her brother, from the moment he became a mutant and she’s been forcing herself to grow up so fast that she’s forgotten she’s still a child."

"How did you know she wanted to be her brother?" "I talked to Sam about it once when I was picking up equipment from the mansion."

"And?"

"What?"

"What else did you find out?"

"He’s not your biggest fan."

"I meant about Paige."

"That was it basically. Except, she hates moths."

"Most people hate moths."

"I don’t."

"I do. I hate insects. Creepy crawly things. Yuck."

"Anyway, what’s with the interest in Paige?"

"I think she has a serious problem."

"Jono."

"Yes, I think we should do something."

"Em, they’re in love. Let them sort it out themselves."

"I suppose you’re right."

"Can I have that in writing!" Sean joked. "Is that the only reason ye’re interested in Paige?"

"I just don’t want to see her hurt. I kind of see her as a daughter."

"And?" Sean asks as he raises an eyebrow. "This stays between us alright. Paige got a letter from the boy wonder. He wants her to go to London. She doesn’t want to go and she hates him."

"Ah, to be young again!"

Now it was Emma’s turn to raise an eyebrow.

"Sean?"

"Don’t you miss the innocence of love. Believing that there’s someone out there meant for you." "I must have missed that. I was in the nut house during most of adolescence."

"Sorry Em."

"Sean, there’s something that I have to tell you."

"You’re really a man."

"I’m being serious. I’m pregnant."

Sean fell off his chair.

"My hearing must be going ’cause I swear I heard you say you were pregnant."

"I did."

"Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhkay." Sean replied, pulling himself up. "So, who’s the father?"

"Tall, blue and handsome."

"HANK?!"

"Don’t sound so shocked."

"Hank is the father. Oh, Emma, if this was April 1st I’d know this was a joke." Sean laughed. "Oh, haha. Look, we were drunk."

"Drunk? You?"

"Yes, I was upset. Everyone was having a child with the love of their life and I was jealous." "Ye’ve never seemed the type who’d want to settle down and have a child."

"I’ve got news for you Sean me boy, all women want to have children."

"Does Hank know?"

"Yes, I told him yesterday and most of the X-Men know."

"And now I know. Are you going to tell the kids?"

"How do you think they’ll take it?"

Sean sat for a moment thinking about it. A smile appeared on his face.

"Well, Jubilee will probably organise a baby shower for you, Monet will be Monet, Paige’ll give you lots of advice, Angelo will make yer life a living hell, Synch won’t be phased by it, Penance probably won’t be affected and if he gets back, Jono’ll be with Angelo." "So basically, it won’t affect them."

"Well at least not ’til the mood swings kick in."

"Mood swings?"

"Ach, one minute ye’ll love being pregnant and then ye’ll hate yer body and be cursing Hank fer getting ye into this mess."

Emma giggled. She couldn’t imagine hating Hank for what he did.

Kids, I have something I need to tell you. Emma said telepathically.

"Can’t it wait?" Jubilee protested.

"Chill chica, it could be interesting." Angelo aka Skin replied as he nudged the young girl in the ribs. "As if. She only calls us when we’ve done something wrong." "Well for once, Angelo is right." Emma interrupted as the class assembled around her. All eyes were focused on her. "I’m going to have a baby."

All of their jaws dropped open, including Monet’s. It was, after all, the last thing anyone expected the White Queen to say.

Most of the children’s jaws were still wide open, only Jubilee had recovered enough to speak.

"You, the one who’s always telling us to be careful, the self appointed Queen of safe sex is having a baby?"

"Yes, is that so hard to believe?"

M was slowly recovering from the shock.

"Ms Frost, you are the last person we would have thought of as being a mother."

"Yeh, Schwarzenegger was more believable in ’Junior’ than you." Angelo added.

Paige looked baffled for a second before regaining her composure.

"So, who’s the father?"

"Yeh, did Sean come to your room one night and give you an early Christmas present?" Jubilee asked a note of pride in her voice that she’d actually come up with something that made Emma blush.

"Don’t get me involved in this one kids." Sean protested.

"In answer to your question Jubilee, no. Mr Cassidy is not the father."

The kids looked among themselves for an answer.

"Bobby?"

"No."

"Well, it can’t be Cyclops or Archangel or Gambit ’cause you’d be in a billion pieces by now. It’s not Logan, is it?" Jubilee asked defensively.

"No, Jubilee. It’s not Logan."

"And it’s not someone you picked up at a bar?"

Emma grinned inwardly. Jubilee would make a good investigator if she could put some effort in to her studies.

"No."

"Okay, that leaves Bishop and Beast. Ewwww.

That’s an image I’ll never get out of my mind."

"What?"

"You with Bishop or Beast."

"Oh." Emma said, disappointed that she was seen as some sort of witch who would grow old alone.

"Beast’s the father." Sean said quietly when he sensed Emma’s sadness.

"Hey, that’s not so bad. Wonder who it’ll look like." Jubilee said as a way of apologizing to her teacher.

"Maybe we should take bets on it."

"Angelo, it is not appropriate to take bets on the appearance of a child." M scolded him.

"Ah think it’s great!" Paige said, "We’ll have a new member.

Kinda like havin’ a new brother or sister."

"I hope it’s a girl."

"It’s got to be a boy!"

"Girl."

"Boy."

Emma watched as Jubilee and Skin fought over the sex of her baby. Anyone who watched would have thought it was their own child they were fighting over.

"And I suppose you will all want a hand in picking a name for my baby."

"Sure, this is our baby now."

"Only baby you’ll ever have chica!"

"Yeh well, ditto to you Angelo!"

M ignored the two. To her they were petty children and she was above such childish behavior, though she had to admit, sometimes winding them up was fun.

"I like the name Oriana."

"Why? That’s kind of an unusual name for a baby."

"It’s Latin for ’dawn’, Paige. The child will bring a new light to the school."

"Oh okay. Ah like Guinevere but Ah guess that name’s been taken by Rogue’s girl. Samuel’s a good name for a boy."

"How about a name that could be used for a boy and a girl.

Ainsley, Jamie or Ashleigh."

"Ev, you might be on to something!"

"Thank’s Jubilee."

"How about Bobby and if it’s a boy you could say you named it after Iceman."

"Jubilee, grow up."

"Em, have you thought of any names?" Sean asked as the kids continued their discussion and argument.

Emma sat and thought back to her childhood. She and her best friend used to go to the park and think up names for their imaginary children. She remembered clearly the names she liked.

"I like Hayley or Chloe or Gemma or Georgia."

"What if it’s a boy?"

"Anthony, William, Philip."

Sean smiled. Emma was calm and almost at peace with herself.

It was something he’d never seen in her before.

"So, when’s it due?"

"April 10th."

"Guys, can we go inside and leave the teachers alone." Jubilee began as she dragged Everret and Angelo in the direction of the main building.

"Why?"

"We’ve got homework to finish Paige."

"No we ...." Paige said but was stopped by Skin’s hand over her mouth. All the students went inside and left the teachers alone.

Emma lay back in her seat. A smile appeared on her face.

"Well, I don’t know about you but I’m going to enjoy this."

"Enjoy what?" The abrupt departure of the kids made him suspicious and he wasn’t really paying any attention to what Emma was saying.

"The sun, the peace and quiet, the pregnancy. Everything."

"That’s good em.’

Emma looked at Sean who looked like he was not in the same state as her.

"Sean, I’m having quints!"

"What?" Sean almost choked himself getting the word out.

"I’m kidding. It’s just you were a million miles away. I wanted to see if you were really paying attention."

Sean got up from his seat and stretched. Emma was now comfortably lounging. She’d taken off her shoes and blouse and skirt, revealing a white bathing suit which left everything to the imagination.

"Well don’t look so surprised, Sean. I do have some respectable clothes." She said as he looked at her outfit.

"Just don’t whine to me when you get sun burn."

"Yes dad!"

Sean shook his head and walked up to the main building. He still couldn’t believe that Emma was pregnant and that Hank put he in that condition. He was also afraid of what the kids were up to and quite rightly so.

[ Doctor Pockets is the name of a band that my cousin, Christopher Rasdale is in. They own that name not me but since I’m not making money they can’t sue me! F.Y.I they play Celtic Rock.

The song Paige sings is ’Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen.

The woman in the waiting room are kind of based on gossips I know but won’t name for fear of having my body torn into a billion pieces! ]

It’s Tuesday at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The day may not be significant to anyone else but it is to Emma Frost, the headmistress. Today she is going to see her baby for the first time. Two of the school’s students will be joining her, Jubilation Lee and Paige Guthrie. Both have been waiting for two hours for their teacher to get ready.

"Y’know, Frosty, this baby’ll be born before you’re ready!" Jubilee yelled, at the same time managing to blow a large bubble of gum. Both the girls were standing outside Emma’s bedroom. Jubilee was dressed in jeans, a plain white T-shirt. Paige also wore jeans and a tight pink T-shirt with the words ’Girl Power’ scrolled across the front. At present, Paige was listening to to her personal CD player.

"Mama, just killed a man. Put mah gun against his head, pulled the trigger now he’s dead!" She sang along.

"MIZZ FROST!" Jubilee screamed as she banged on the solid Oak door.

"I’m coming Ms Lee." Emma replied from within her room. She was wearing a beige knitted top and skirt. The skirt came down to her ankles. She’d been sitting for the past hour thinking about the baby and her life. Thoughts like ’what if something’s wrong with the baby?’ kept popping into her mind.

This is stupid. She told herself as she stood up and went out of the room. Both of her students were standing, waiting for her.

"Are you two ready to go?" She asked knowing that it was going to annoy Jubilee. The young girl’s eyes narrowed and her nose twitched in irritation but she didn’t say anything. She did, however pop her bubble which she knew would annoy the older woman.

"Paige, c’mon. She’s finally ready." Jubilee said tugging at her blonde haired classmate’s arm.

"Ah’m comin’, Ah’m comin’." She replied as she removed her headphones and stopped the CD.

Both students and their teacher got into the car. Emma sat in the driver’s seat while the girls sat in the back. The journey to the doctor’s wasn’t eventful except for Jubilee whistling at a couple of guys in a jeep. Outside, the doctor’s office looked like it should have been a hunting lodge. Inside, it was quite pleasant and relaxed. There were three women sitting on an overstuffed couch discussing different ways of giving birth. There was a receptionist on the right hand side who was busy typing something. A couple of kids were sitting in a corner playing. This was a private practice that Beast had recommended because of it’s friendly approach to pregnant women. Emma had to admit, so far Beast was right.

"Can I help you?" the receptionist chirped as she turned away from the computer.

"Yes, I have an appointment to see Doctor Pockets at 12." Emma replied as she walked up to the desk. Jubilee and Husk stood behind her.

"Oh, you must be Emma. Hank’s told us all about you." The receptionist replied as she flipped through a pile of paper. Emma was annoyed that Hank of all people would discuss their business with others. "Could you sign here please."

She took the pen and signed the form.

"Thank you. If you take a seat, Doctor Pockets will see you soon."

She and her students sat on the other couch which was vacant. The two girls looked around the room. Jubilee focused on the kids playing while Paige read a leaflet that was on the table next to the couch. Emma felt out of place in the room.

"So, are you new here?" A brunette woman asked. She was heavily pregnant and grinning like a Cheshire cat.

"Yes." Emma replied nervously.

"First time?"

"Yes."

Emma looked down at her feet, hoping the woman wasn’t going to ask any more questions.

"Oh, I remember my first child. I thought it was so great. Then, there was my second child. That was such an easy pregnancy and now I’ve got three and four in one." She patted the lump and sighed. "My name’s Katherine Williams by the way."

"Emma Frost."

"This is Cynthia Rogers and Lorna McMichaels." She pointed to her two friends. Both women nodded in acknowledgement. "So who’s your doctor?"

"Doctor Pockets."

Cynthia pouted and crossed her hands.

"Oh that’s not fair," Lorna began, "he told me he was all booked up.

I wanted him as my doctor. How did you pull that one off?"

"My friend, Doctor McCoy arranged it. Why? What’s the problem?"

"She’s not seen him." Cynthia stated to her other two friends.

"Oh, Emma, he’s so good looking. Some of us have been known to get pregnant just to see him!" Katherine began as Doctor Pockets’ door opened. "Speak of the Devil!"

Doctor Pockets came over to the moms-to-be. The women were right, he was gorgeous. Just over 6’ tall, blonde hair which was all ruffled, smokey brown eyes. He was the kind of man your mother warned you not to go near.

"Emma Frost?" He called in a voice that would melt butter.

"Hello."

"Paige and Jubilee looked at their teacher who seemed to be mesmerized by the doctor and the girls couldn’t blame her. They were also drawn in by his charm.

"Right, if you come this way Emma."

He guided her into his office and all the women sighed, wishing that he would do that to them.

"Don’t you think he’s cute?" Paige asked her young friend.

"I’d love to have his kids!" Jubilee sighed. Paige looked at her friend, shocked that she’d think and say such a thing at her age.

In the doctors office, Emma sat on one side of the desk while the doctor sat on the other.

"Doctor Pockets, I.."

"Please, call me Danny."

"Danny, I’m not sure why I’m here."

"Basic check-up. See how you and the baby are doing. Work out the due date. Sort out all the other stuff."

Oddly, Emma felt comfortable here. It was relaxing here, no pressure was put on her unlike her last doctor who constantly upset her.

"So how do you know Hank?"

"We’ve known each other for years. His mother’s my mother’s cousin." he replied, "Now if you hop up on to the table, we’ll see if baby wants to make an appearance."

Emma smile at that, she was desperate to see the baby and now her wish was going to be granted. Danny put some sort of cold gel on Emma’s stomach and positioned the monitor so that he and Emma could see it. A small object appeared. It didn’t look like much but to Emma it was so much. She could now accept that there was a life growing inside her.

"Hello." She cooed at the monitor. She smiled and put her head back on the table. She was definately going to enjoy this. She just wished Hank was here with her.

She came out of the office four hours later. The waiting room was empty with the exception of the receptionist, Paige and Jubilee. The girls were playing Monopoly and from Paige’s pained expression, Emma guessed the Kentuckian was losing. Danny was standing behind Emma, watching the two girls with her.

"Time to go girls." Emma announced. The two students looked up at her.

"What’s the time?" Paige asked as she stretched and rubbed her eyes.

"Just past four." Danny said as he looked at his watch.

"Right, well, we better be going. Thanks for your help Danny. I’ll talk to Hank tonight about it."

"Tell Hank to phone me. I want to catch up on all the gossip!"

Emma smiled. She was becoming more and more comfortable in this practice. Danny was a God send. All of them went out to the car. Jubilee and Paige got into the back. They sit close and start whispering and giggling.

"Okay, where now?"

Both stop giggling and look at their teacher with a straight face.

"The mall." Jubilee answered, trying not to giggle.
