New Year's Day
Last night, while we were fast asleep,
The old year went away.
It can't come back again because
A new one's come to stay.

NEW
YEARS DAY HISTORY
New Year's Day is the
first day of the calendar year. People in almost every country celebrate this day as a
holiday. The celebrations are both festive and serious. Many people make New Year's
resolutions to break bad habits or to start good ones. Some think about how they have
lived during the past year and look forward to the next 12 months.
Many American colonists in New England celebrated the new year by firing guns into the air
and shouting. They also visited taverns and houses to ask for drinks. Other colonists
attended church services. Some people held open house, welcoming all visitors and feeding
them generously.
Modern customs on New Year's Day include visiting friends and relatives; giving gifts;
attending religious services; and making noise with guns, horns, bells, and other devices.
In the United States, many people go to New Year's Eve parties. Crowds gather in Times
Square in New York City, on State Street in Chicago, and in other public places. At
midnight, bells ring, sirens sound, firecrackers explode, and everyone shouts, "Happy
New Year!" People also drink a toast to the new year and sing "Auld Lang
Syne"
On New Year's Day, many people in the United States visit relatives, attend religious
services, or watch football games on television. Some people attend parades, such as the
Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Cal., and the Mummers' Parade in Philadelphia. |

To leave the old with a burst of song,
To recall the right and forgive the wrong,
To forget the things that bind you fast,
To the vain regrets of the year that's past
To have the strength to let go your hold
Of the not worth while of the days grown old,
To dare go forth with a purpose true,
To the unknown task of the year that's new
To help your brother along the road,
To do his work and lift his load,
To add your gift to the world's good cheer
Is to have and to give a Happy New Year.

Today in my section of the
world some lady
walked up to a nine year old boy on his way
to school and doused him with a flammable liquid
and set him on fire. A NINE YEAR OLD BOY!!!
What is wrong with this country???

So my wish on New Years Day is that can EVERYBODY
PLEASE live in PEACE!!
STOP THE HATE!!!

We Need to Feel More
We need to feel more to understand others. We need to
love more to be loved back.
We need to cry more to cleanse ourselves. We need to laugh more to enjoy ourselves.
We need to establish the values of honesty and fairness when interacting with people.
We need to establish a strong ethical basis as a way of life.
We need to see more than our own little fantasies.
We need to hear more and listen to the needs of others.
We need to give more and take less. We need to share more and own less.
We need to realize the importance of family as a backbone to stability.
We need to look more and realize that we are not so different from one another.
We need to create a world where we can all peacefully live the life we choose.
We need to create a world where we can once again trust each other.
-Poem by Susan Polis Schutz

Near to the door he paused to stand
as he took his class ring off her hand
all who were watching did not speak
as a silent tear ran down his cheek
and through his mind the memories ran
of the moments they walked
and ran in the sand (hand and hand)
but now her eyes were so terribly cold
for he would never again have her to hold
they watched in silence as he bent near
and whispered the words...
I LOVE YOU" in her ear
he touched her face and started to cry
as he put on his ring and wanted to die
and just then the wind began to blow
as they lowered her casket into the snow....
this is what happens to man alive.....
when friends let friends....
drink and drive.

Tomorrow Is a New Day
Sometimes we do not feel like we want to feel
Sometimes we do not achieve what we want to achieve
Sometimes things that happen do not make sense
Sometimes life leads us in directions that are beyond our control
It is at these times, most of all that we need someone
who will quietly understand us and be there to support us
I want you to know that I am here for you in every way
and remember that though things may be difficult now
tomorrow is a new day
