tank two

The top off water is done semi automatically since the top off water reservoir is still being filled every 2-3 days with RO/DI water.  The pH is usually between 8.1 and 8.2with a Neptune controller pH probe.  Calcium is usually between 420 and 450 with the Salifert kit.  Nitrate is undetectable  with a FastTest kit.  Alkalinity is usually between 11 and 12 dKh using a SeaChem kit.  Kalkwasser is added to the Nilsen reactor weekly.  The Nilsen reactor is cleaned monthly to get rid of accumulated CaCO2.  Additional SeaChem Reef Builder and Reef Advantage are added weekly.  Kent Turbo Calcium is also added weekly.  The front glass is cleaned once a week using a Tunze magnet.  Once every two week additional cleaning using a DIY scraper is required to remove coralline algae and a  ever stubborn thin green algae film.  K2R calcium reactor media fill up is required every 4-6 weeks using CaribSea Aragamax or Korallith  (I'm still experimenting).

The ETSS SR600 skimmer is cleaned weekly.

Activated carbon bags are rinsed monthly and changed every other month.

The tank and sump are fed with Ocean Nutrition Formula 1&2, Brine Shrimp Plus, Prime Reef flakes  liberally twice a day.  Every other day, cryopreserved phytoplankton paste along with Golden Pearls and decapsulated brine shrimp eggs are also added just after the lights are out.  The skimmer is turned off overnight after the phytoplankton is added.  In addition, the herbivore fishes are also fed with caulerpa harvested from tank 3 or the sump/refugium.  Occasionally, the Tubastrae is target-fed with Sweetwater zooplankton or frozen brine shrimp.
