The Tralaway mountains have always been a mysterious place. They are a beautiful mountain range, but few ventured there to see it, for it was like a jungle, and quite easy to get lost it. The rare creatures, fairy and dragon breeds, plus some oddly colored firelizards, lived in peace there along with one single Weyr called Valley Weyr.
All was peaceful in these
lovely mountains until one fine day when an earthquake shook the land and
the Valley Weyr. The very hill where the Weyr was located was shaken up
and transformed so that only a tunnel was left as its hillside was joined
with another. Though many of the riders were able to escape between,
much was lost and the survivors knew that they needed help.
Weyrwoman Canita of Cold Rocks Weyr and her Golden Queen Talarth flew through the skies of Pern. They were on their way to Cold Rocks Hold to tell the lord holder there a thing or two. Him and his prying and suspicions. Thinking that dragonriders were no longer needed. He didn't believe the Red Star was a danger at all. Had he forgotten the ballads, the songs, the legends that tell of the coming of Threadfall? She could tell her dragon to go between and arrive there in seconds, but at her Weyr she was under so much pressure, and she just had to get away. Flying through the sky on dragon back was wonderful, and she could almost feel good and put her troubles behind her. So as she was flying, she was surprised to see a Bronze dragon, looking quite different from hers, from another part of Pern he must be, pop out of between into the skies in front of her. His rider saw her and began to fly towards her.
That is Bronze Fideth and his rider L'lark. Talarth informed her rider. He says that he is a survivor of a terrible earthquake and his weyr needs help.
"Even up here, I can't escape." Canita muttered as she directed her dragon to fly closer to the bronze. She could see the rider L'lark on the back of the bronze, a rather good looking young man, and called to him.
"I can try and help you the best I can, but
in return you must help me!" So the two rode together to Cold Rocks Hold,
and after taking care of the business there, Canita and her Weyr's wingriders
set off for the Tralaway mountains to help L'lark and the survivors.
It took many Turns to rebuild Valley Weyr, and when it was done it wasn't really in a valley anymore.. Canita and her wingriders did what they could. They were in truth fascinated by the place and its rare beauty and its amazing creatures. She also found herself falling in love with the Weyrleader L'lark, and when the Weyr nearly finished she found she did not want to return to her now deteriorating Cold Rocks Weyr, and neither did her wingriders. They had found a new Weyrwoman there in her absence, and she didn't want to leave her love L'lark or her new life there.
Canita found she didn't have to, for L'lark proposed to her. The huge, joined together mountains were the perfect place for two Weyrs, and another Weyr on the joined together hillside was built for the Wingriders. It was called Dragon Fang Weyr. L'lark remained Weyrleader of Valley Weyr, and Canita became Weyrwoman of the new Dragon Fang Weyr, The two Weyrs were needed, since the Red Star again passed close enough to Pern to drop its dreaded Thread, and the Tralaway mountains must be kept thread-free. It was two Weyrs, but they were joined so that it was one Weyr, the Twin Weyr. And so it has always been...
