Bill
Zurofski WAZ born
in 1954, in Butler, NJ, beside the warm glow of a
12AX7 dual-pentode vacuum tube. When I was 5, I
moved up to a 6L6GC dual triode power vacuum tube.
Repaired my first guitar amp when I was 12. Built my
first amp, and taught solid state theory to me peers
in high school when I was 15. I started taking
trumpet lessons in the 4th grade, but by the 5th
grade I discovered that "chicks" usually flocked
around the guys playing guitar, so the trumpet was
permanently put in the closet. My dad helped me get
started on the guitar, since he played, and was in
an award winning country-western type band, where he
got to appear on New York City television. Mom
played the French horn in some marching bands, and
also played piano and accordion. My great uncle was
the renowned big band songwriter, arranger and
leader Larry Clinton. My paternal grandfather would
occasionally take down his balalaika, which his
parents had brought over from the "old country", and
play it. I grew up surrounded by music!
My first gig was at my 8th
grade class dance, when the hired band didn't show
up. At the suggestion of some of my classmates, the
principal drove my home to get my gear, and I did a
solo gig, playing crap like "Louie, Louie",
"Pipeline", "Wipeout", etc. When I saw all those
girls lined up at the front of the stage, watching
me play, I thought "This is way cool". Been playing
or running sound ever since.
My favorite vacation spot: 50 to 250 miles off the
coast in the Gulf of Mexico. Musical influences
range from Beethoven to Buffett to Rush to Zappa,
with many stops in between. I enjoy many types of
music.
What do I want to get out of
the TOF experience? Some camaraderie, some fun, some
creativity and hopefully, some studio signings.
Where do I see myself in 5
years? Hopefully, either working on our 3rd or 4th
or 5th album, or retired.
I have several pets, although
my wife refers to them as "grandchildren".
Fishing of all types, playing
and creating music, spending time with my wife and
pets, oops, I mean granddaughters, "messin' with my
'puter", and picking on Ed are some of my hobbies.
