Goku
Goku is one of the main characters of the DBZ series. He was first introduced in the Dragonball series, and is present through the DBZ and DBGT series. Goku is the strongest fighter in the Z-gang, and is always saving the day. Even though he is really strong, he remains kind and clueless, and would probably give all of the bad guys another chance if they convinced him that they would be good. He gets lost in his training, and even loses track of time if he isn't bothered to stop. Goku first goes super saiyan in the battle with Frieza on planet Namek, and goes super saiyan 3 during the Buu saga.

Gohan
Gohan is the son of Goku, and at one point was even stronger than his father. During the Cell Games, Gohan was the only one with enough strength to defeat Cell, and did it with Goku coaching him from Other World. Seven years after that, Gohan finally gets to go to high school, where he meets Videl, the daughter of the winner of the Martial Arts Tournament, Hercule. Videl blackmails Gohan into participating in the next tournament, where he meets Supreme Kai and ends up getting involved in the fight against Buu. During the Buu Saga, Gohan reaches his top strength with the help of the elder Supreme Kai, but doesn't get to help in the battle when he is absorbed by Buu.

Goten
Goten is the second son of Goku and ChiChi. He first appears in DBZ after Goku's death. He trains with ChiChi, and when he goes SSJ, ChiChi gets upset saying, "There's another monster in the family!" Goten meets his father for the first time when Goku come to earth for one day. He is shy at first, but then is very happy to finally see his dad. Goten enters the Jr. Budoukai tournament, along with Trunks. He trains with Gohan and gets a flying lesson along with Videl. The last two fighters at the tournament are Trunks and Goten. Goten fights hard but Trunks knocks him out of bounds, making Trunks the winner. When Majin Buu starts attacking earth, Goku teaches Trunks and Goten the fusion dance. It takes then awhile, but soon they can fuse together perfectly, making GOTENKS! Gotenks fights Buu in the Hyperbolic time chamber. When he tries to play a trick on Buu saying he is too weak to fight, Piccolo thinks he's serious and blasts the door, making it impossible for anyone to get out. Buu, knowing he is trapped, rips a hole between the dimension by yelling. Gotenks and Piccolo try to get out through Buu's hole but it closes before they can get there. Gotenks uses his voice and finally makes another hole letting him and Piccolo out. Gotenks fights Buu but he is absorbed along with Piccolo, giving Buu his power and Piccolo's wisdom!

Vegeta
Vegita is the father of Trunks, and the long-time arch-rival of Goku. Though Goku holds no hard feelings towards Vegita, Vegita has always been jealous of Goku's natural strength and has always struggled to surpass it. His animosity towards Goku has often made trouble for the Z-fighters, especially during the Buu Saga when he makes Goku fight him to prove his own strength. For a long time, Vegita had been part of the evil characters, fighting for Freeza. But when Freeza destroyed his home planet and the rest of the race of Saiyans, Vegita fought against him. Though his own strength paled in comparison, he still fought to destroy him, even if he couldn't succeed. After the Cell Games, Vegita marries Bulma, whom he falls in love with after being injured while training under intense gravity. With Bulma he has a son, Trunks, who he dies for in hopes of destroying Buu. But he is allowed to come back to Earth by King Yamaa, after the attempt to destroy Buu fails. Goku has also been granted new life by an elder Kai, and Vegita fuses with him using the Kai's earrings. The fusion was supposed to last forever, but when Buu attempts to absorb them, the fusion ends.

Chibi Trunks
Chibi Trunks was born right before androids 19 & 20 first attacked. He trains with Vegita and one day while training he turns super-saiyan. Goten and Trunks both enter the Tenkachi Budoukai but have to stay in the children's division. They are both finalists, and Trunks wins by knocking Goten out-of-bounds. Goten is a little annoyed but Trunks promises him he can have some of his toys and Goten cheers up. Goten and Trunks both wanted to fight in the Adult division of the Tenkachi Budoukai, so they beat up Mighty Mask and steal his costume so no one would know it was them. They battled against #18 in the finals and once she realized who they were, she fires a blast that they both dodge in different directions, tearing up the costume and revealing them for who they really are. They fly off to watch the Majin Buu fight. When Trunks sees the Piccolo statue, he taps it, knocking it over and breaking it. When the people who were turned to statues come back to life Trunks get all worried because he thinks Piccolo will not come back to life because his statue was broke, but Piccolo comes back and Trunks pretends he didn't do anything. When he sees that his dad is in danger, he flies in and kicks Majin Buu freeing Vegita. Vegita hugs Trunks and tells him he loves him, then knocks him and Goten out and tells Piccolo to take them away. When Trunks wakes up, he's in Kami Palace and hears that his father is dead. He fuses with Goten to make Gotenks and together it seems that the may defeat Buu but they are asorbed. When Vegeta gets the idea that a spirit bomb might destory Buu he gets all the people of earth to be brough back to life along with Trunks. Trunks give his power to help create the spirit bomb and Buu is destoryed.
Ten years later, peace has returned to earth and Trunks decides to visit Goten. He meets his father and mother where Goku and Goten are training and Vegeta tells him that he has to compete in the next world martail arts contest or his allowance will be cut in half.

Mirai Trunks
Mirai Trunks is the Trunks who appears during the Cell Games, coming from a future timeline in which humanity is ravaged by androids. Using a time machine built by his mother, Bulma, he travels to the past in the hopes of changing the future. Being the son of Bulma and Vegita, Trunks has the strength of saiyans, and is also able to reach Super Saiyan. Mirai Trunks arrives just as Freiza and King Cold arrive on Earth. Since Goku hadn't arrived yet, he destroyed both of them easily with his sword and some blasts. Everyone was amazed at his strength, and became even more shocked when he claimed that Goku would be arriving on Earth in a few hours. Refusing to reveal his identity, the other fighters became suspicious of the stranger until Goku did arrive. Meeting privately with Goku, he explained how the appearance of androids would lead to the destruction of all the Z-fighters, and that he would die from a mysterious heart disease. Gohan would be the only survivor, and would train Trunks to become a strong fighter. With a cure for Goku's heart disease, Trunks came to give the heroes a fighting chance. After leaving them for a time, Trunks returned to help and see how they were doing. Since the androids were not those that he thought they would be, he stayed in hopes of keeping those from being awoken. He is unable to prevent it, though, and the androids 17 and 18 are activated. Trunks helps during the Cell Games, but after Gohan destroys Cell, he returns to his own time to destroy the androids there with the newfound strength gained in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

Bulma
Bulma is first introduced in the Dragonball series, when she meets Goku and he destroys her motorcycle. She is the genius of the group, and can fix or build anything. She is also the richest, and her favorite thing to do is go shopping. She ends up having Trunks with Vegeta during the Cell Games, and later they have a daughter named Marron.

Chi Chi
Chi-Chi is the headstrong wife of Goku and the mother of Gohan and Goten. Goku and Chi-Chi first met in Dragonball when she saved Goku. Her father, Ox-king, trained her to be formidable fighter. She is a little over-protective at times, and she is always encouraging Gohan to do his studys instead of train. When Goten was born, she was the one to train him, since Goku had died during the Cell Games and never known he had another son. Chi-Chi is the reason Goten goes Super Saiyajin, because of her harsh training he transformed to be able to fight back. When he did transform, she cried, "There's another monster in the family!" She also has a wild temper, and as the strongest woman in the world it is dangerous to get on her bad side. <

Videl
Videl is the daughter of Hercule, who is introduced when Gohan starts going to Orange High School. She is one of Gohan's classmates, who is quite headstrong. She soon finds out that Gohan is the super-hero who has been saving people throughout the city, Mr. Saiyaman. She blackmails Gohan into training with her to compete in the tournament. While training together, she makes Gohan teach her how to fly, which she learns quickly. During the tournament, she fights one of Babbidy's henchmen, who almost kills her. Gohan goes after the enemies, and ends up fighting with Majin Buu. When Piccolo returns and tells her that they think that he's dead, she finds that she is in love with Gohan. Later on, Videl ends up marrying Gohan and having a daughter named Pan.

Pan
Pan is the child of Gohan and Videl, and is just as strong as her grandpa Goku. She was born after the Buu saga ended. Unlike Trunks and her uncle Goten , she loves training more than anything. She's quite strong, even though Gohan and Videl no longer fight or train anymore. She goes on a journey with Trunks and Goku to retrieve the Black Star Dragonballs, accidentally (or purposely) taking Goten's place on the ship.

Hercule
Hercule is the father of Videl. He has was the World Martial Arts champion the previous year and managed to win by making a deal with android 18, the other finalist. He's not always the tough-guy he appears to be, he is usually is quite cowardly. He does earth good when he befriends Buu, convincing Buu to stop hurting people. But this does not last long because Buu's dog, Bee, is shot by two men and Buu's evil is released.

Android 18
Android 18 joins the Z-Warriors near the end of the Cell Games, after he throws her up. Krillin had started to like her a lot, and when they were asking the dragon for their wishes to be granted, they decided to let Krillin have it. He had wanted to make her human, but it was beyond the dragon's power so he settled for taking out the bomb that had been implanted in her. Android 18 was touched, but at first did not want to let Krillin think that she owed him something. She eventually marries him, and has a daughter named Marron. She also remains much stronger than him, and flaunts it in front of him.

Krillin
Krillin first makes an appearance in Dragonball, when Goku is starting to train with Master Roshi. Krillin becomes Roshi's second pupil, convincing him to train him by bringing him some dirty magazines. At first, Krillin was really competitive, and cheated whenever he got the chance. But later on he and Goku become really close friends, and remain friends throughout the DB/Z/GT series. He's always bald in the Dragonball and Dragonball Z series, up until after the Cell Games, when he grows out his hair (which turns out to be black) since he's becoming a family guy.

Buu
When everyone first heard of Buu, he was an evil monster that loved nothing more than destroying everything. He had been sealed by the Supreme Kai, but was released by Babidy. During the Buu saga, he killed everyone and absorbed most of the Z-gang. But Buu wasn't all evil, because he separated into the good and evil Buu. In the end the good Buu survived when the evil Buu was destroyed, and became a member of the Z-gang, and a good friend of Hercule.
