Monday, 7/28/03 - "The moon rules the fluids Including the inner juices of human beings"

Do we define ourselves in society? Or does society define us? Who are we in society's mesh of conflicting cultures? The people who most identify with my view of life would be the two people I hang out with most, Jared and Tim. We form what I would like to say is our own cultural clique. Everyone fits into one of the many pre-defined syndicates in their community. We are no different. We aren't rocker's, because we don't solely listen to rock. We aren't nerds, but we do have more intelligence than the average person. We aren't jocks because we don't like sports, although we will enjoy a game of capture the flag or ultimate frisbee now and then. We are far from being drama addict's, but, hey, what's life without drama? We aren't the part of the artsy crowd, yet we are all our own of form of artist. Are we simply the social misfits of this post 2nd millennium generation. Are we the next breed of hippie's, beat's, rasta's, or punk's? We share many of the same traits and ideals, but we also have unique qualities. We just view life on a different plane than most other people.

7/30/03 Asya:
No one actually belongs to one clique. It's really a movie thing. You're no different or more unique then any other high school person. Sorry mate.

8/3/03 Daniel:
You seem to have completely missed the entire point of the post. Good job.

8/4/03 T:
I applaud you on your ability to define something that I could only descibe as abstract or solely dedicated to the pursuit of new music. We have evolved from that level of rocker/punk to an enlightened plane of existance in which music is more accepted because it is now known what it takes to create an eternal song. I like the way that Pink Floyd was able to express the fact that we are a building brick, in the musical sense, that the worlds energy seems to stem from, "All in all were just another brick in the wall". May the faith of Timijion protect you in your new surroundings and hardships. Sabiy

Friday, 7/11/03 - "Unzip the pants and watch the snake dance"

"Women in the United States are two to three times more likely to attempt suicide than men. American men, on the other hand, are four times as likely actually to kill themselves."
It is hard to come up with an explanation for that quote that isn't sexist.

I am most definitely moving to Novato. I will probably be attending Novato High. Hip hip hooray.

The first person to tell me the name of this song wins respect.

7/12/03 someone:
Peanut Butter Wolf - Hold up

7/15/03 Geoff:
The reason that women try but dont acompish suicide is because most women try to kill themselves in sometimes non letal fashions. One is Slitting your wrists, it usualy works, but if you get to a hospital on time you will live. Another is taking to many pills, or mixing pills with alcohol, witch can be fixed by getting your stomach pumped in a timly fashon. Men mostly find brash more likly ways to kill themselves, I.E. Shotgun to the head, Hit by a speeding car, head in the oven, ect...

7/23/03 sss:
in other words women do it for attention and men do it to die.

Sunday, 7/6/03 - "Picture yourself in a boat on a river, With tangerine trees and marmalade skies"

"Once you can eat shit and enjoy it while relaxing in a pool of boiling shit, you are enlightened."
The first person to make sense of this quote wins a cookie.

I figured out how to hook up my amp to my computar, so I kind of have a mini studio. The sound quality sucks, but whatever, I can make my own full songs.

Alright, it's time to make a new flash movie, I really need a summer project. I'm open to suggestions on plot lines/general ideas, as god forgot to give me an imagination.

7/6/03 noobert:
If you can enjoy something horrible you have made yourself rise to another level past all average emotions. You are enlightened because you see something that everyone does not.

7/6/03 Daniel:
That's pathetic. I know you can do better than that.

7/7/03 jared:
if you can just fuck everything that will make life suck for you and be happy in your own mind while having the rest of your life you enjoy handy, you don't need much more than that to live a successful life on your own terms... or something like that...... where's my cookie.

7/7/03 Daniel:
We have a winner!
Some more interpretations would be nice, though.

7/7/03 sss:
make the movie about car jacking turning into a professional sport and one guy becoming absolutely famous with techno and rap for the music.

7/8/03 Daniel:
Uhhh. That would be too hard to draw and shit. Think of something less complicated.

7/8/03 amelia:
i'm not going to compete with these two for the cookie. but i think it means that if you can enjoy yourself while doing something horrible, then you've reached enlightenment. it's not so much about enjoying what you are doing, but just being happy "being". existing. when you're happy being alive even while eating shit in a pool full of hot shit, then you've reached a state where you don't need anything else. because you've got all you need.

7/8/03 :
make a nishinazi movie

7/9/03 sss:
make the movie about donuts with spears fighting hot pockets with shields.

7/14/03 Daniel
Alright. Here's mine. Eating shit is, I imagine, one of the most excruciating tasks possible. You would need an incredible will power to eat shit in the first place, but enjoying it is in a whole other realm. It is the same with enjoying boiling to death in shit, except it is physical pain instead of mental. When you can not only accept, not only overcome, but actually take pleasure in participating in the most intense mental and physical pain possible, there is nothing you can't do. It goes without saying that this quote should not be taken literally. You could shoot a retard up with a near-overdose level of heroin and he would swim in the pool without feeling pain, and, like a lot of retards, enjoy eating shit. Not exactly my definition of enlightened.

Sunday, 6/29/03 - "...through my alphabetized repertoire of synonyms for the female pudenda"

I've had a really laid-back summer. Not one bad day so far.
Pretty much the only thing I've been listening to lately is electronica. I have dedicated the last couple weeks to discovering new turntablists. If you're interested in the wonders of electronic music, check out some of these artists: Cut chemist, Dj Q-Bert, Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Kid Koala, U.N.K.L.E, DJ Krush, Dj Spooky. If your more into rap or hip-hop, here are some good Underground rap artists: Rahzel, X-Ecutioners, Dj Premier, Rob Swift, Dr. Octagon, The Beat Junkies, Peanut Butter Wolf.
I have no plans for the rest of summer. I'll probably go to Coy's tonight, something interesting is bound to happen.

6/30/03 sss:
make a new movie

7/5/03 geoff:
YES MAKE A NEW MOVIE RIGHT NOW

7/18/03 amelia:
Rahzel is the fuckin' shit, dude. He is so cool.

Tuesday, 6/10/03 - "Your priorities are all fucked up, kid."

There are two distinct types of people in society.
The first are the people who live every day with one subconscious goal in mind: to make that day worth living. These people believe that if they don't participate in or witness anything exciting that day, it was wasted. Each and every day must be a unique experience containing a special meaning that is worthy of being related to the rest of the world. This is why so many people obsess over every unusual occurrence, or why people jump into pools at parties, or choose specific days to act/dress/eat/whatever different. Sure it may not be a rational thing to do at the time, but as long as there is a story worth telling, a memory worth treasuring they can die happily.
The others are the people who have long term goals as their priority. Today is just another opportunity to achieve that goal. There is one ultimate goal that, when it is reached, there is no longer a need to live. The rest of your life can be spent doing absolutely nothing and it won't matter.
During the course of your life you will probably alternate between the two mindsets, depending on the outside forces that affect your lifestyle ideals.
Which category do you fit into? Which would you rather belong to?
I'm not exactly sure which category I fit into right now. I try to make the most of each day, but if I don't, it doesn't particularly bother me. Currently, I don't have any specific long term goals. I realized that I spend a lot of time studying both society as a whole and the individual actions of each person in it. So, just so that I can say I have a reason to live, my goal is to understand the human psyche. To determine what makes people do what they do, one behavior at a time.

6/11/03 Geoff:
Can i say that i am in a third catagory. I try and live my day like the first person, but try as I might i always get distoryed mentaly. So i find that living is just an endless suffering that i just have to endure until god finds time to think of a funny death for me.

6/11/03 :
Your theories regarding life are astonishing.

6/12/03 :
geoff you just realized the first step of buddhism: Life is suffering; desire leads to pain.(whoop dee doo)

6/12/03 bolshoi:
Yes. the first is called pragmatism, in which a person seeks instant or short term gratification. The second, idealism, refers to long term goals.

6/13/03 :
why dont these people with no name not want to be known for their insights?

6/13/03 Daniel:
That's a good question.

6/18/03 sss:
because it is just easier.

People who have the most meaningful things to say usually say nothing. For example, you.

6/10/03 Daniel:
What makes you think I have anything meaningful to say?

6/11/03 :
Don't act as though you don't. The things you say on this website ARE meaningful, to some. I would have no trouble with telling you that everything you write is worthless bullshit, if that were the case, but it isn't. What you say gives some insight into mundane things, making them seem vaguely more profound. What is said here is a bit deeper than what is said in other public "journals", that's all.

Tuesday, 5/20/03 - "Tomorrow never comes until its too late"

It's time for change. From today forth I will be less of an angry, arrogant, apathetic asshole. I will have more of an optimistic view of life. I will learn to appreciate what I have. Less bitching. More talking. Spend as little time in my house as possible. Time is running out. Make peace while I still have the chance. Love to learn and learn to love. And other bullshit like that.
School. Blah blah blah. Grades. Blah blah blah. Dumb family. Weh weh weh. England. Weh weh weh. You've heard it all so I won't bother writing about it.
By the way - you don't need to ask about updates on me moving, I will let you know when I find out anything.

The last 10 books I read:
Pixel Juice by Jeff Noon - A collection of 50 short stories. Each with their own little style and specific meaning A little too poetic for my tastes, requires too much thinking to enjoy.
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis - An incredibly twisted look into a psychotic killers mind. Probably the most fucked up book I have ever read. I love Bret's original style of writing, everyone should read this book.
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk - Very much like the movie. I can't say if it is better or worse because it is just too hard to compare movies to books. It's pretty incredible for his first book. Definitely buy this if you enjoyed the movie and are looking for some of the deeper implications that weren't in the film.
White Noise by Don Delillo - I always thought Palahniuk had a completely original style of writing until I read this book. It is not only beautifully written, but also contains a lot to learn about society and human impulses.
The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis - A book about college life through the eyes of many students. Very interesting book. Contains drugs, sex, and everything else good. Has anyone seen the movie? Is it good?
Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh - Scottish/English heroin junkies and other drug addicted fight loving friends. Most of it is written in a thick Scottish accent so it is kind of hard to understand. There is a glossary of Scottish slang in the back of the book, which I didn't notice existed until after I had finished reading it. Oh well. Good book. Good movie, too.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky - Ms. Schmitt recommended this to me. It's about this dumb, immature kid and his adventures in high school. You can almost taste the ending. It's an Ok book, there is worth in reading it.
Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, and Xenocide all by Orson Scott Card - I read all of these books back in 7th grade. I decided to pick up Ender's Game again out of the blue and I immediately remembered why I liked the book so much. I then proceeded to read the rest of the series.

I am currently working on Hendrix - Setting the Record Straight by John McDermott and Crash by J.G. Ballard. I am totally fucking obsessed with Hendrix right now.

The only unread books on my bookcase are currently A Saucerful of Secrets: the Pink Floyd Odyssey and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (what is quality anyway?).

5/21/03 Tamara:
Hey Daniel, I saw the Rules of Attraction movie. Definitely not my style, it kind of deals with issues I don't do well with. Very well done though, artistically. You should see it.

5/21/03 Daniel:
Cool. I will check it out.

5/22/03 sss:
Try reading Starship Troopers for an interesting view of the future. The movie isnt even close to the book.

5/27/03 Daniel:
I'm not really into science fiction, and the movie kind of sucked, but I'll add it to my list of books that I should read.

5/26/03 amelia:
i know we don't talk that much anymore, but i want you to know when you move i will miss you so much. and i will send you a birthday present. i still owe you one from last year. and we have to keep in touch. you were the first friend i made at TL, you and mike. don't forget about me, okay?

5/27/03 Daniel:
I will always remember the first day I really talked to you. It was in the library and we were doing some project in Mr. Steinbergs class. That was the day we named you "Kurt Hair". Those were good times. Of course I won't forget about you.

5/27/03 nevil:
uh, ur moving? since when
