The Battle of Los Angeles
I have decided to review The Battle of Mexico by Rage Against the Machine. It is a DVD of a live performance by Rage in Mexico, with over 5,000 people in the crowd. The DVD includes 14 different songs. It also includes a photo gallery, subtitles, an interview with noam chomsky and an interview with Subcommandante Marcos.
The DVD starts with Zach, Tim, Brad, and Tom playing Testify. They continue to play their best throughout the whole concert. I was dissapointed to see that they didnt't have "Voice of the Voiceless" or "Wake Up" but they had all my other favorite songs. It could also have been longer, the total running time is only 68 minutes. Surprisingly, the swearing in some of the songs was censored, and not in others. I think that Tom could have made new parts to the solo's in the songs to make it new. Zach spoke a little Spanish, which i never knew he could. Some of the time the members of the band played to the camera, which i thought was a nice touch but it is rude to the audience.
The Photo Gallery was small, consisting of less than 10 photo's. The Interview with Noam Chomsky was nice and long - over 10 minutes - i thought they came up with a lot of great points about the Zapatists Rebellion in Mexico at the time. They spoke a lot about NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, which meant that the poor people of Mexico would get poorer, while the rich landowners in America would get richer. There was also an interview with Subcommandante Marcos who was an actual Zapatista, fighting for the rights of his people in the Chiapas. Overall the DVD was a great buy for $16 at the Wherehouse. I suggest that all Rage fans go buy it, but if you aren't a fan, you might not like it. It also comes on VHS so if you don't have a DVD player or your poor get the video.
