Introducing The Spider!



Chapter 1: Stalkers
June 28, 1998
9:00 PM

The night has begun and New York gives way to BatWing. He couldn't leave & return home yesterday. He was rudely interrupted by a hero trying to Capture him.* (* Last Issue ) The creature sought shelter until the darkness fell. Immediately BatWing searches the groun for his cave, the one from which he was captured.** (** #1 , where you been?)

Though the nightis his to roam, BatWing isn't the only stalker this night.

He travels from building to building on a thread of web. Swinging from here to there, you'll find The Spider! In a red costume with a blue top & a black spider insignia he travels through New York looking for BatWing. But then isn't everyone? Stopping at one corner, and pirching near a grey gargoyle he overlooks the city. Interrupted by screams, he locates the source and swings off.

Another guy in a red suit is mugging a beautiful red-headed caucasian woman. "Give me your purse lady! Or I'll shoot you with my sonic.."

"Nagging?", the Spider interruots him. "Back off Klaw, the lady isn't your type"

Klaw turns around to find the Spider clinging to the side of the wall. "That's all I can stand of you swinger!"

The Spider retialates, "Not only do you pick bad costumes, you can't get my name right!"

The woman smiles at her hero, and says, " Spider!"

"And I'm popular with the ladies.", The Spider adds. With that remark, Klaw's had enough & charges the Spider. Spider slips behind him, spins around & splatters Klaw against the wall with his Impact webbing.

He turns to the woman, who tells him, "Thanks hero. Are you that popular with the ladies?"

"Sometimes ma'am, I would like to stay and chat, but there's a killer bat on the loose I have to catch.", he jumps to the wall and fires a web & swings away.

"Wow. I hope he hasn't seen the last of Jean Grey.", she smiles.

Chapter 2: Spiders & Bats oh my!

this night BatWing's in luck. His sonic scream is working again, and he's en route to out of the city when suddenly Lady Luck picks another card for BatWing. His head hurts, like someone's in his head. Go to Florida. Go to Florida. Go to Florida., it repeats. It interrupts his flight, and he spirals to the ground. As fast as it started it stopped & BatWing rights himself up screeching.

Meanwhile a block away, the Spider continues to swing & search when he hears the loud screeching & starts to follow it.

BatWing takes off flapping his wings and screeching like Godzilla without his fish.

Nearing the end of the street, he turns the corner, and crashes into the swinging Spider. They both fall a ways, but manage to land on their feet.

"My you're a beatiful site..", The Spider remarks. BatWing turns his back, and jumps up, readying to fly off. "What's the rush big fella? Fraid you might miss a tv show?", The Spider asks as he spins a web around the Bat keeping him grounded.

BatWing screeches.

"Yeah, Yeah that's what they all say.", The Spider jokes. "They all say scree."

BatWing's clawed hands grab the webbing & snaps it in two freeing itself. Then he turns to face Spider.

"Now you want a fight eh? , The Spider readies himself.

BatWing lunges for Spider's neck & grabs hold knocking his head repeatedly to the ground. BatWing's fangs move closer to drawing blood when Spider's sense kick back in. He loosens his left arm and aims it for BatWing's mouth. "Not so fast, suck on this." And sprays it, startling the bat. And with his free right arm, Spider uppercuts him backwards & stands up.

Hurriedly BatWing tries to remove the webbing, but not in time to repel Spider's jumpkick.

Finally the webbing is torn away & he's ready to attack again. He flies into Spider's stomach and forces him into a wall.

Spider goes on the defensive shooting the last of his impact webbing towards BatWing. It knocks the bat into a web on the wall that he cannot get out of. Spider advances, as BatWing starts to screech.

"Nothing going to save you now.", Spider says.

Suddenly a bright light appears that blinds Spider and totally frees BatWing. Given the time, BatWing escapes the fray into the air.

The voice re-appears in BatWing's head, *Go to Florida, Go to Florida*. This time his head does not hurt, & BatWing understands the command, and changes his course from Savage Land to Florida...

NEXT ISSUE: Who told BatWing to come to Florida & Why? As BatWing enters the swamp, he's attacked by another monster. Is this the end of BatWing?
