Hi knit pals.
WIP: Not far from completion ripping and afghan hat I didn't like
to get
more of the yarn
to complete this should have an fo today.
I started the garter stitch shawl by Lily chin last night from the latest
knitters and although I
got gauge on the needles recommended I couldn't manipulate the sts
on the
boye gold tip needle
aaaaaaaaaah keeps falling out and I was frustrated. I am going to try
the
size 9 from my almost
never used Denise interchangeable and see if it makes any difference.
Although I didn't get far though I noticed that what I was making didn't
look like the pattern.
The chart shows, and I think but could be wrong, 2 rows of eyelets
just
above the finished shawl
but mine didn't look as shown on the chart. Mohair is the pits
to rip so
am kindly asking someone who
has made this shawl to let me know if am missing something. Thanks
so much
and have a nice day.

Subject: Knit: Aunt Lydia's Rug yarn sources summary
Hi folks
Thanks to all who responded to my quest for a source or for substitutes
for Aunt Lydia's rug yarn. I promisted to summarize for the list (and
for Susan :-) Here goes...
It seems that it IS still available at stores such as Wal-Mart, JoAnn's,
Michaels, Franks', A.C. Moore.
Someone mentioned that Herrschner's catalog has Aunt Lydia's yarn
(although I checked their web site and found crochet cotton but not
rug
yarn).
Other popular sources mentioned were thrift stores and Ebay.
Substitutes suggested were Lion Brand Thick 'n Quick Cotton, a synthetic
rug yarn produced by Caron yarns, and a fibre at a weaving store in
McMinnville, Oregon called "Robin & Russ." (www.robinandruss.com).
A couple of folks offered to part with some from their stashes -
thank-you! - and I forwarded these on to my friend.
Isn't the KnitList a GREAT place to track down supplies?
Thanks to everyone who responded!

Will it lay flat when I'm done?

Hi everyone,
I have started my first DALE sweater (St. Anton 2001), and things are
going
pretty well -- but, I have a question. At Stitches EAST I took
the
Continental Knitting class so that I would be able to hold one color
yarn in
each hand. Now that I'm on the two colors per row portion of
the sweater, I
need to know if I'm doing it correctly. I am actually "throwing"
with the
right hand and "picking" (continental style) with the left hand.
Is this
right? Do the experts think my gauge will be off with this combination?
I
have completed about 3" and so far gauge is okay. Advice is welcome!

Hello Erica!
I just use some non-rusting long quilting pins I've had for ages. I've
never
had wires, not being a "piece" knitter, so when I do have a shawl or
scarf
to block, I use the pins, they're about 1.75" long with a white head,
so
they don't get lost! I just pin to a doubled over towel or whatever
I have
that's big enough for the item - quilt, blanket, etc.

Happy Knitting!

This is not so much a technique question as it is a physical question
for a knitter with diabetes or a knitter who is a nurse/doctor.
I am
knitting a pair of socks for a diabetic friend with foot problems.
She
has had to have parts of her toes and feet removed to prevent gangrene.
I am using the basic sock pattern from Folk Socks, and I am to the point
of grafting the remaining toe stitches. Here's my question:
the socks,
as knitted, are about 3/4" to 1" too long. I need to rip out
and make
them shorter. No problem doing that, but how far would you rip?
That
is, would you rip as far as the too long amount _before_ the toe shaping
and then knit to the normal grafting point, OR would you rip down the
too long amount and graft the stitches you have there, making the toe
more blunt/less pointy? Which would be more comfortable for her?
Thanks for your help!
