Hello Arlene!
I haven't knit with the Banff, but I have used their Whistler, the next wt.
down from Banff. I did a plain stockinette pullover for DD when she first
went off to college 3 years ago. She only used it one year, and I inherited
it from her, as teens grow tired of clothes SO fast!

Anyway, I wash it in the washer and throw it in the dryer, and it keeps it's
shape, but does pill terrible. So, I only wear it around the house. Next
time, if there were a next time, I'd knit to a tighter gauge and not machine
dry the entire time, probably lay flat til just damp then toss into dryer
briefly, to bring it back to size (as we all know how superwash things
stretch when wet!).

Hope this helps!

Happy Knitting!

I was wondering if any of you had heard any news regarding BBR's new
book. I thought it was supposed tbe out in the fall (which it now is)
and I have seen nothing.

I somehow manged to get myself into the position of planning (and
showing in) two arts/crafts type shows for Christmas. So most of my
knitting time is being sucked up with mittens, small kids hats and a
couple of scarves here and there. I have also done a bit of weaving to
fill in the corners. All of you lovely people working steadily away at
your winter holiday knitting make me so-o-o-o jealous, I haven't even
figured out what I would like to give to whom. I bet whatever I end up
making for people this year it will be small!

Happy knitting all!

I hope some of you will be kind enough to respond to this query. I am
searching for the best, basic 100% wool yarn. I would like it to not pill
and to be reasonably priced. Please email me with your preferences. Thanks
for your input <g>.

Hi listers.
I did the hat and it is really fun and great. Youngest GD in DC will wear it
this winter. If the older GD is lucky she might get one too.
Try it you'll like it.
Isn't Flor the greatest???????
We are all lucky to have her.

Space Pals:

I have made the tough decision to get rid of my Denise interchangeables
what a wrestle.
I know a lot of you like these needles and based on recommendations I
bought two sets
now I just want to recup the cost so I can get  regular needles.  These needles
made me cry one time more than I care to count and I don't intend to drive
myself crazy.

If you are interested in these needles.  Do write me at
sharon@cosy-place.com and I
can tell you where to take a look.

WIP: same no change.

have a nice evening and bye now.

Catch up
I was several days behind in my digest reading.  Today was the day to catch
up.
Thank you, Rita, for the kind words.
Darcy, I have made the AS St Brigid.  You could start with a sleeve to see
if you enjoy working on it.  Really, once the patterns are set, it is not
difficult. The yarn is a
dk wt rose colored wool (Emu by Naturally or Naturally by Emu or whatever it
is.)  It is a beautiful design.

Congrats, Eileen... 8.5# down.  Excellent!

On the needles
I'm knee deep in holiday preemie hats.  I'll send out a batch (I'm aiming
for 40) mid week with lots of Santa hats, hats with stars, trees, bells and
so forth on them, and lots of non-holiday ones, too.

Fixation socks are on the needles, fern color.

The Edwardian carrying cape (Oat Couture, LaLaine dk, soft white) is only
infant sized yet it seems to be taking me a long time to make it!  The
capelet part is finished.  The larger cape part is started.  Once the
preemie hats are in the mail, maybe I'll take off a couple of days and
concentrate on the cape.  (Actually, I am 17 days ahead on the preemie hats;
have finished #334 for 2000 so I can do that and still meet my goal with
ease.)

White Bison/Cowichan sweater question
Tonight I decided I really need some slippers and since I have 11 cakes of
White Bison (a gift from a df last year) which I just can't stand to work
with (hurts my hands).  I cast on a few sts and started out.  I find that if
I throw the yarn with my right hand, I can almost stand to knit with it.
The rest of the time I knit only continental. I keep telling myself that if
I finish these, they will keep my feet toasty.  However, I'm not sure that
that is enough incentive to keep me going.

Those of you who have taken/taught the class on Cowichan sweaters, what size
needle do you use?  What gauge do you like to work with?

I really don't enjoy working with large needles but with this yarn, there
isn't much choice about the matter.

My dear Sister tells me that our mother would like more socks for Christmas.
Well, I certainly can't blame her!  I'll put 'em on my list.  ;)

Happy knitting.

For those who may have missed it, I've put up a number of new holiday
patterns in the last few weeks.

A candy cane ornament can be found at
http://knitting.about.com/library/weekly/aa102900.htm.  Makes a great pin too.

I've also put up an ornament/pin/package decoration of holly with french
knots representing berries at
http://knitting.about.com/library/weekly/aa110500.htm

Lastly, I designed a small motif for a candy cane.  You can use it in
multiples over a hat, scarf, or afghan or knit it as the centerpiece of a
dish/face cloth which I've also included.  For DesignAKnit fans, the .pat
file is also available for download.  This pattern is at
http://knitting.about.com/library/weekly/aa111200.htm

If there are any free patterns out there for the holiday that are not
listed in the Christmas Knitting Patterns section at
http://knitting.about.com/library/blxmaspatindex.htm, please feel free to
send me the urls.  I'd love to add them!

Enjoy and Happy Knitting!

Barbara
