I think I was one of the victims of the Australian post service "knitters".
Artisan Books sent me a batch of mostly OOP and hard-to-finds knitting
books THREE months ago via air mail. I'm still waiting for them. Although
seller had charged me shipping insurance they confessed they didn't
insure
the parcel when I complained about the delay. Well, I'm now willing
my US$
100+ refund. I'd rather prefer the books. Just in case, I redirect
my
purchases from Australia to Germany. Had successfully bid on a huge
pile of
Verena back issues ranging from 1988 to 1995.
Brazilian post is very good and I doubt there's someone in its staff
who
both knit and read English. Guess they will be tempted by mags in German.
LOL
OKC: Slowly working st st on 340 sts. June Oshiro mentioned problem
with an
Addi needle. I, for one, had never break a needle in 40 years of knitting
until yesterday. Was working with a circular bamboo Addi Natura and
it
simply broke in the joint. Brand new, first time use and pufff!!!!!!
Time for deep sighs.
Hugs,
Flor

Hi Everyone! I am knitting a donkey for my nativity and
am having
problems with the pattern which is from the Australian Women's
Weekly, November 1967. The pattern is mainly in garter
stitch.
It says: Head and Neck - continue on 10 sts rem. from body thus:
1st Row: Inc. 1, K to end. K 3 rows.
5th Row: Cast on 3 sts., turn, k to end.
7th Row: Cast on 2 sts., turn, k to end.
9th Row: K to last st., inc. in last st. K 4 rows.
(More follows but this is the part that has me confused.)
My problem is that if I cast on 3 sts. and then turn I have no sts.
on
the other needle to knit. If I cast on 3 sts.
and then don't turn
and knit to the end I need to knit back to get to the place for the
cast on again. I thought this might be right because
I presume
the alturnate rows need to be knitted back but I ended up with a
very big head for the donkey!
Is the pattern wrong or am i reading it incorrectly. If
anyone can
help me I would be very grateful. (It looks a nice
little donkey, if
only I can work out the pattern!)
Thank-you in anticipation. Jean in Australia
