i'm sure this is easy for you all, but I have a
question about my pattern.
It says:

To shape shoulders:
cast off 4 sts at each side.

i had no trouble with the first four, but when i
came to the end of the row
i had one stitch left on the needle after the
castoffs. do i knot it or is
there something else i should do? thanks

Somehow, I lost the knit list digests for late
Sunday and all of Monday. If
anyone still has these, would you mind sending
them to me? Thank you.

You all are so quick to help! thank you everyone.
The last four stitches are
actually cast off at the beginning of the next
row. This pattern is from a
40s book i bought on ebay. I like knitting, it
takes a bit of fashion design
to get exactly what you want. Do you guys ever
look at the knitted things on
jcrew.com? I'm going to attempt making one of
their sweater skirts next, i
believe. well, thank you everyone again.

Dear knitfiends,

First to Marge in St. Louis, what a heart-warming
but sad story. I have also
lost a few dishcloths to the garbage disposal
beast, but your story puts it
all in perspective. Thanks for sharing this.

Tonight I went to an open knitting session at the
LYS. All our usual Tuesday
night gang were there. I had intestinal fortitude
and I only bought one skein
of yarn although the store was full of many new
and yummy things. I needed a
skein of pale pink Encore to do those mittens for
my babysitter and as I
remembered, there was one in the sale bin. What
luck!

I have the squat's Ear Cozie almost done. Then I
will be casting on mittens
for DD#1 and working a bit on the Queen of Hearts
shawl. I may be cranking
out some more of these hats though, they are so
fun and easy to knit. There
are two ladies in my discussion group at MOPS who
are pregnant, one due this
Friday! For those looking for preemie hat
patterns, this Fiber Trends pattern
would probably make a great preemie hat knit in
DK or sport weight to an
appropriate gauge.

From the multiple WIP reality,

who was mopping floors at 3 AM, as a hot water
pipe sprung a leak in the
bathroom in the middle of the night.

Hi, everybody,

I just wanted to add a tip about the cable cast
on. When you get to the
last stitch to be cast on, make your loop and
then pull the yarn to
front between the next-to-last stitch and the
last stitch, which you
then slip on to the left needle. That eleminates
that floppy last
stitch. I use cable cast on almost all the time
and am happy with the
results.

Woolease Sport Weight

I made a pair of socks for DH out of this
recently and really liked the
results. He wanted something light weight
enough to wear with regular
shoes, but warm. Today I discovered a new
JoAnn's nearby which carries
lots of Lion Brand yarns, including several
colors of the Woolease
sport, and it was on sale. Guess who stocked up.
I got a pair of socks
from one skein, with enough left over for , I
think, one more sock. I
used sizes 1 and 3 needles, which gave me a firm
but not stiff fabric.
I haven't noticed anyone else mentioning using
the sport weight for
socks and wondered if you haven't discovered it
yet.

WIP

I'm doing Sally Melville's Topher's Pullover for
a Christmas present for
my son and have one sleeve left to go--plus
hundreds and hundreds of
ends to weave in. It's looking great in pieces.
Hope he likes the
finished product. All else is on hold until I
get this thing finished.

fox trots into my back
yard at dusk to check out the cat food bowls. On
Thanksgiving I put
out an egg for him and watched to see him carry
it off.

Dear All,

I write as a free woman. Thesis is IN. Exams are
OVER. Degree #2 is TOAST. And as Austin Powers
would say "And I'm spent."

Of course, the freedom is bound to be short
lived, as I'm coming out of my student coccoon to be a
beautiful corporate lawyer come Jan 15th. Denial
and knitting will get me through at least until the 14th.

Fortunately for my overstressed brain, the
infinitely wonderful Jamie sent me a very generous present:
Zilboorg's hat book. Well, I have been purchasing
oddballs by the dozen and knitting hats so wild, so
crazy, so subversive of good taste and indeed of
life as we know it, that the odds are no-one will wear
them. Never mind, I shall wait until they fall
asleep, put the hats on their wee heads, and take photos,
BWAHAHAHA!

I was addicted to shawls. Now, I am addicted to
hats. Still better than most substance addictions,
though, unless we're talking about sweetened
condensed milk. Hey, I can stop any time I want.

Speaking of which - can anyone out there help me
work out how to do the double decrease (s2kwise, k1,
p2sso) while following Zilboorg's graphs? I have
two Honours degrees, but I can't seem to figure
it out.

A final disappointment: I missed another
burgeoning flamewar. Nuts.

Love to you all, and special thanks to the
supportive, generous superwomen Kathyrn (Oz) and Jamie
(US).

Loz.
