MOVIE REVIEW: Blade II
Got Blood?
By Maf
Maf Joint Movie Ratings
'Blade II' is the sequel after the box office hit 'Blade' in 1998. After years of preparation and script revisions, 'The Blood Hunt' is the end result. Blade was good, Blade 2, however, received mixed opinions. Blade 2 is more action-packed and gushed more blood than the first movie, and massive explosions and fighting scenes are rendered in the movie.

New Line Cinema
Blade has found new and controversial allies to fight against a novel common enemy endowed with extreme visciousness and physical strength. |

A new race of enemies emerged as the vampire nation fiddles with technologfies beyond their grasp of control. A new species of vampires called Reapers led by a prince betrayed by his vampire emperor father and seeked to revenge and feed...what? You think I gave out too much plot? Trust me, the movie has a lot of twist, but not much of a plot like the first one. I might as well give you some bones before you walk in. Anyways, where was I? Oh Yeah, the vampire nation in desperation had to turn to their arch rival Blade for help with these new menace.
The trailer for the movie did not show nearly as much action scenes offered in the actual movie. Realistically speaking, the movie is a bit too gruesome for many to see it again, but it is definitely not something you should miss if you are looking for some block buster thriller to watch on the big screen. For hardcore vampire lovers out there like myself, this movie may confuse you with some ludicrous notions like "A cure for Vampire". Don't worry about that, vampires don't exist, it is free to be shaped into any forms as we please. Whether it is Bram Stoker's Dracula, Anne Rice's Vampire LeStat, or Blade's vampire nation, as long as they all look fine and suck blood for a living, they can all pass for vampires.
Some logical flaws in the movies like the Blood Pack(Vampire Nation's elite force trained for one purpose: Kill Blade) and Blade discovered that they could kill the Reapers with rather ease with UV light, but they still gone over all th troubles to go down with fire powers that are not as effective as a simple UV light you can get from Wal-Mart. To those people who are frowning at this weakness of the movie, I have one thing to say to you, SHUT UP! We are not watching it for Vampire Class, we are watching it for the sake of seeing good guys chopping off bad guys! Just sit back and enjoy the show.
Blade's sword broke in the movie. I really want to comment on that, my friend Jack brought it up and I really feel the same way as he does, too. Blade's "titanium sword" is the most representative weapon he has, and watching it break really shattersour confidence in his image. Maybe the director tried to show an effect of a stronger enemy so it would increase the excitement of the audience when Blade managed to defeat him at the end. However, it's a symbolic weapon, and it should be handled with care by the film makers. My suggestion is that, you can lose the sword, you can get hurt by it, or you can lend it to your poker buddy, but you CANNOT have it destroyed for some stupid cause. It's like Austin Powers lost his mojo! Completely unacceptable.
Comical reliefs and effects are abundant throughlout the movie, they are nicely done. Nobody can really sit through an entire film of enough blood spilling to sink Titanic without some laughs. Again, it is hard to describe how awesome the fighting scenes were, although they are not gonna be as good as some kung fu movies, but hey... we are watching Wesley Snipes, not Jet Li. If you want to watch real kung fu, rent Iron Monkey or something.
At the end, I thought the movie was well done, and it gave me almost same amount of pleasure as the first, except this one is less dragged on and has more parts that make the money I spent on the ticket worth the cost.
