I have lived most of my life in Fresno. Well actually Clovis. They are so close that most people don't know when they have left one city and entered another. And most people have never heard of Clovis, so I just say Fresno. Anyway, here is a little history on both cities. Fresno County covers 6,000 square miles, with a population over 786,800, and was created in 1856. Fresno is Spanish for 'Ash Tree,' and began under Mexican rule. The original Fresno County seat was located at the town of Millerton on the San Joaquin River- an area now flooded behind Friant Dam. Fresno is the only city in the nation just 90 minutes from three national parks: Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia. Fresno's yearly Blossom Trail is really a site to see. A 67 mile self-guided tour featuring the natural allurement of California's agricultural heartland. Blossoms such as peaches, nectarines, oranges, plums, and almonds can be found along the trail. The Blossom Trail kickoff is customarily set for the end of February. Fresno has about 7,500 farmers harvesting 250 crops on 1 million irrigated acres. Known as the number one agricultural county in the world, growing cotton, tomatoes, lettuce, grapes, citrus, and much more. Fresno is also proud of our Triple A affiliate team to the San Francisco Giants baseball team, The Fresno Grizzlies. The Fresno newspaper is The Fresno Bee. Yearly a great place to go is The Big Fresno Fair. We also have a world renowned zoo, The Chaffee Zoo. And you can't live in Fresno without being a supporter of California State University, Fresno. CSUF was a wonderful athletic program and we love to cheer on our Bulldogs! |

The
City of Clovis
was named after Clovis M. Cole, a man who spent nearly all of his life
in the vicinity. Since its incorporation in 1912, Clovis has been the
"Gateway to the Sierra," and today, under the slogan of "a
western way of life." Clovis covers 16 square miles with a population
over 68,000. Clovis is known for the excellent quality of the school
district and for the annual Rodeo
Days, Big Hat Days, and Clovisfest celebrations. Clovis is a very
close-knit community and we pride ourselves on the safety and well-being
of our children. To visit the best high school is Clovis go here! |
