Evan Almighty... 175Million budget? for this?

Alright maybe I went to the theater looking for something different than I had signed up for. I'm a HUGE Steve Carrel fan, He is absolutely hilarious in every movie I have ever seen him in, Anchorman, The 40 year old virgin,  Over the Hedge, and the original Bruce Almighty to which this movie was spun off. I also really liked the original Jim carrey movie. And I guess I was expecting more of that style of a movie.

This was not that movie, and so I disliked it. I thought it was a waist of my time to only get a couple of Wanda Sykes jokes. But this movie wasn’t intended for me. It's a message based comedic film that is instead meant to purely make you laugh, its supposed to work as a 95 minute PSA trying to tell people to make more ARKs (acts of kindness). And in that light it did was it was supposed to, it was a family friendly, ho humm comedy.

The thing that really bothered me was the extreme change in character that took place, Evan went from being the guy you loved to see get humiliated and wish bad things on, to the friendly dad, and stand up politician. That to me, was the worst mistake they made. I know the movie wouldn’t work without this change, or a new lead actor, but maybe the movie shouldn’t of been made then? Or they could have explained how the guy changed his attitude.

Funness:

Honestly I think kids will find this movie Extremely fun, especially if they were raised with the bible. Because this movie has more of a younger comedy to it. There were a couple of honestly fun moments, the "Flood" scene was a lot of fun to watch, and the animals building the ark, who doesn’t like to watch animals do things humans do? But its made for a younger to older audience, and skips the young adult audience.

Quality of Production:

Very well done, the Flood scene looks really really good, and the animals all do very well in their acting, and the ones that are computer animated look very close to real.

Bottom Line:

Evan Almighty is a good movie for families with younger children to see, The kids will laugh nonstop.
