Pre Ceremony Formal Photos
The tradition of late is to have
all the formal photos of the Bride and Groom with their
respective entourages, taken before the ceremony even
begins. When, exactly this started, we have no idea. But
we were wanting to be old fashioned. We did not want to
see each other before the wedding. We stood by that
decision until very nearly the end. We were hounded by
our photographer, who wanted to do something we didn't,
and by a few of our friends and guests, about how silly
we were. Our decision even prompted the question, "Well,
why even wear white?" That was a rude and uncalled
for question. Even the Groom took extreme offense to that
question. In the end, we succumed and agreed, "Fine. We'll take all the pictures before the ceremony. Just leave us alone about it already." It wasn't what we wanted, but like most weddings, it turns into more of what every one else wants anyway. On the wedding day, the Groom's Party was supposed to take pictures at 9:00 am, and then the Bride's Party would show up at 9:30 to take the joint pictures with both parties. Then the Grooms would go on their merry way, and the Bride's party would continue to take pictures. It didn't happen quite that way. Most of the Groom's Party showed up on time to take the pictures, however, when the Bride's Party showed up, the Groom changed his mind and decided that he didn't want to see the Bride before the wedding. Henceforth, the Bride was also not allowed to see the Groom. Lot's of hand waving ensued. Finally, once the Bride was sufficiently ensconced behind a building, picture taking resumed. And when the Groom's Party was done, they left for the hotel. And the Bride's pictures began. The Groom's last minute decision left the photographer gnashing his teeth, but it was worth it when the ceremony began. The pictures were taken at Valley of the Temples, in Kahalu`u, on the island of O`ahu. Very, very beautiful. |
