How does it work? Well,
it has a lift fan which draws air into an air compressor.
The compressed air then inflates a rubber airbag
skirt', specifically designed to stay tight to the
ground for ease and smoothness of movement. The dual
drive propellers at the rear of the hovercraft provide
the thrust to send it travelling (or indeed hovering)
along on a cushion of air. For maximum power, the Racing
Hovercraft boasts three motors.
There are hours of fun to be had in the fantastic Racing
Hovercraft, and it isn't restricted to sunny days: the
fun can carry on during winter using it on snow or ice
(but don't let the battery run down and end up having to
walk across an icy lake and fetch it, or you could end up
having an unplanned and very cold bath.) Or of course you
can use on dry land, indoors or outdoors take it
to the office and make your colleagues jealous instead of
the bread-throwing kids.
The batteries will last approximately 8 to 15 minutes,
as there are three separate motors all using the same
battery pack. If it is at full throttle all the time then
the running time will be much closer to the 8 minutes,
however, it does not just stop dead! It gets slower and
slower with the gradual draining of the battery pack.
Furthermore, it will float on water even when switched
off so you would be able to retrieve the hovercraft
albeit at a slower speed than perhaps when you launched
it!
Warning:
Use only on fresh water, not sea or salt water. Avoid
overly rough or rocky ground as this may damage the
airbag skirt.
