TWP SHOW
WRITE UPS
These are
pretty silly but here they are anyway. They are written kayfabe style,
so if your smarkish pretension gets offended by this, piss off now.
16-12-2000
Parramatta RSL. Macarthur Auditorium.
I get to Parramatta
and so far I'd had a boring day. However things were going to change, and
change in a hurry. The dressing room was tense and I was uptight. So for
me I was feeling pretty normal. The crowd built up to capacity and It was
time to get this thing rolling.
Pistol Pete
pinned Night Crawler.
You want a quick start, these two
are the guys to give it to ya. From top rope splashes to drop kicks to
hurricanranas to splashes outside the ring. After hitting Pete with the
hurricanrana from the top rope Night Crawler seemed sure of victory. Then
Venom came to ringside distracted ref Big Al, Dean Draven coming out to
help his mate Pete with a head butt off the top rope. The crowd popped
for this. For Pete (who also won the TWP 2000 rookie of the year award)
it was another win in his current win streak. Night Crawler can consider
himself hard done by. Pete gets the pin after outside interference.
Dean Draven
pinned Mace.
"...at
the next Parramatta show I'm going to kick your arse 'cause I've had enough
of this $#*%...." DEAN DRAVEN (Titan Radio #3).
Dean said it and he did it. But not without the challenger giving a great account of himself. This was an excellent match. Any thoughts of Draven losing his touch were dispelled in this near 20 minute gem. The match started with Mace & Amy talking up a storm. Then Draven charged the ring going nuts on the challenger and. Dean's frustration that has continued to build over the last few months spilled over at this point and Mace was the recipient. Mace to his credit rallied and with some clever interference from Amy Action stayed in it.
Dean was putting on a clinic at some stages in this match. I thought the application of the cradle leg splitter was going to be the end for Mace but the challenger wasn't going to give up under any circumstances and resisted the dreaded submission hold. Amy of course interfered as much as she possibly could. Then Dean took as much as he could take and when to get some reinforcement. That came in the shape of Venom, much to my commentary partner Striker's chagrin. Amy then got involved again prompting the ref to fine her $1000 and prompting a quick violent response from Venom.
Then after seeing all this Dean threw us yet another curve ball. He finished off Mace with not one of the 1005 Draven-Lock's, not the cradle leg splitter, not even the missile head butt. No this was a special night so we got the Draven....um....heck I don't know. After sitting Mace on the top turnbuckle it seemed like a top rope chicken wing suplex was on the cards. Instead he delivered what can best be described as a top rope pedigree, which got the most amazing crowd pop heard for a very long time in Parramatta. It goes without saying that Draven got an easy 3 count and as we thought had finally silenced Mace, not likely. After coming to Mace along with Amy challenged Dean & Venom to a mixed tag which was immediately accepted. Two things that emerged from this match. Dean Draven is back in town complete with a new finisher, a new manager & an army of fans. This is Mace's first shot at a big time strap. Mace for all of the big talk and cockiness he is a serious contender.
Sonic &
Red Flair vs. Maverick & Striker - Red Flair & Striker winners.
So much happened
in this match it's going to be virtually impossible to describe. Yet another
contender for match of the year. Wild Child had sustained an injury and
couldn't take part in this all important match. Then much to all our shock
out strutted Red Flair. Just as cocky and as conceited as ever. This was
an incredible brawl. All 4 guys just unloading on each other with the tag
team concept thrown to the wolves. The foreign objects ranged from drink
trays, chairs, kendo sticks, wet floor signs, ref Big Al and
I really felt sorry for Big Al in this one as it just appeared to be a free for all with him just caught in the middle. So many near falls, so many severe shots, blood, low blows, suplexes on the floor and assorted violence that all 4 of these guys deserve major accolades.
The end saw Striker attempt a flying body press on Red Flair who caught him in mid air. Maverick drop kicked Striker, Red fell backwards, the ref counted 3 and after 14 or so minutes of total utter chaos we have new tag team champions. So as the stipulations were, Striker got the pinfall so he re-unites with his partner (who was Red Flair) and walks away with the tag titles. Maverick & Sonic were totally distraught at this result and want another shot at the titles.
The Titan-Rumble.
13 men, 1 woman and only 1 winner.
Katherine
Bennett joined me at the announcers desk and announced the order of the
rumble entrants as she'd won the draw at the last show for a fan to decide
order of entry to the rumble.
Since the Wild Child (the defending champ) was injured and Red Flair said he'd step in anytime, Red was drafted in yet again by Wild Child and was in @ #1 with Maverick @ #2. They tore at each other wielding anything they could get their hands on. It should be pointed out that Wild Child was making a total and utter nuisance of himself outside of the ring. Whomever gave the wireless mic to this guy should be locked up!! The Wild Child shouted instructions at Red, insults at the fans, insults at the other wrestlers and was also not too impressed when the fans suggested he should leave ringside "Piss off Wild Child" was the gist of it I believe. He also had with him a 360 pound insurance policy named Man Mountain whom everybody avoided.
#3 Striker who came in and proceeded in helping Red demolish Maverick with a series of inverted atomic drops leaving Maverick in trouble. That was until #4 Sonic charged the ring. Letting loose on Striker and then all 4 went at it virtually a continuation of the tag team match. #5 was Mace who swaggered his way into the ring only to be met with a vicious 4 way double teaming. Looks like his anti everybody comments on Titan Radio 3 were heard by all. Red then got hold of the wet floor sign and clobbered Mace. Then he proceeded to annihilate everybody in the ring including partner Striker.
#6 Over Kill charged in and started flaying away at Striker & Maverick, a mistake. Over Kill was then tossed from pillar to post by the 2 he attacked and Mace. Then it was #7 Amy Action who made her way to the ring as did Mikhail for some unknown reason. Mikhail was out for a little bit of her own action (pardon the atrocious pun) and promptly set about attacking Amy with all guns blazing. Mikhail hasn't forgotten the mixed tag controversy and after going totally nuts, she made sure Amy wouldn't forget it either. However Mikhail's cameo appearance was short lived as commissioner Dave Barrand ordered her out of the ring or face suspension. Mikhail responded by threatening Dave with a chair. Mikhail calmed down and left ringside.
Striker was the first one out eliminated by Red then Mace gave Maverick the same treatment. #8 Karnage was next who started off throwing punches in all directions. As this was happening Over Kill was eliminated. Time for #9 none other than Dean Draven who looked menacing with a sign and an attitude. This prompted all in the ring to quickly abandon ship leaving the champ on his own, defiant of all. He immediately got into it with Amy & Mace. Next in #10 Ace Brimshore. It was Ace season as he was dealt out similar treatment that Mace received earlier. #11 the very popular Slash entered the fray and along with Ace double teamed Sonic. This lasted a short while before Sonic got the better of the 2 rookies. #12 was on the way but not before Ace was eliminated. #12 was Seven Dust who rushed into a hiding at the hands of Amy & Mace. Karnage was then eliminated by Sonic, closely followed by Mace courtesy of Dean Draven.
Draven then copped the biggest low blow seen for a while by the queen of the nutcrackers, Amy. This left all us guys feeling a little sick. Seven Dust then Slash were then shown the door and #13 Black Jack showed himself in. He didn't last long and was eliminated soon after. #14 Pistol Pete joined in the party and the Pete fans went crazy. His confidence at an all time high set about his work in a tradesman like manner including a Snuka splash on to the back of Red Flair.
5 left, no more to come in. Pete and new ally Dean Draven pounded on Sonic while Amy & Red got into an argument that would have done any 4 year old child proud. Then Red turned his attention to the distracted Pete and out went Pete. Draven then eliminates Amy leaving 3. Sonic then eliminated Dean leaving 2.
Well this is it folks the final 2, well almost. Red tried to enlist Dean to go in and beat up Sonic. Dean replied by kicking Red in the mid section and hurling him back into the ring. The end came when Red threw Sonic out through the middle rope to get a breather, as Flair was spent. Sonic slowly climbed back onto the apron and Flair tried to sling shot Sonic in. But Sonic with the heads up move of the night sling shotted Red Flair out. Leaving Sonic the winner and NEW TWP Titan-Rumble trophy holder.
Congrats to Katherine Bennett for putting together a terrific rumble entry list.
Your winner Sonic.
4-11-2000
Parramatta RSL. Macarthur Auditorium.
The proceedings
got under way with Mace (formerly Eric the announcer) telling the crowd
and TWP president Dave Barrand about his move from the announcers position
to wrestler. Mace also pointed out that he was sick and tired of copping
criticism about his commentary style, the fans and it seems the world in
general. I was drafted as a last minute fill-in and copped a mouthful from
Mace for my troubles.
Mace pinned
Night Crawler.
When Mace
had finally stopped giving us a demonstration of his expansive vocabulary
we were set. Mace took it upon himself to insult and introduce his opponent,
Night Crawler. His new found popularity was apparent as the place went
dark and a spotlight shone on the shadowy figure that is Night Crawler.
The Night Crawler is a popular figure these days.
This was a hot opener with the crowd
getting right behind Night Crawler and getting on Mace's case at every
opportunity they could. The match was a very tight affair with each competitor
having the advantage. Mace at one point tried for the cover several times
and failed. Night Crawler blocked a suplex and had Mace reeling setting
him up on the top rope and delivering his version of the hurricanrana off
the top rope!! Ref Big Al counted 1-2-3 and NIGHT
CRAWLER was the winner in just over
12 minutes of non stop action. As the announcements were made Mace one
again grabbed the mike and claimed the count was fast (it wasn't) and the
ref cheated (he didn't). Mace demanded 5 more minutes. Night Crawler said
ok. He shouldn't have as Mace delivered his patented "mace destruction"
and got the fall. So your winner was MACE.
The Chief
defeated Fabio - via submission.
Fabio made
his way to the ring sporting a new hair do, if you call a wig a new hair
do. Chief was in the mood for mischief and quickly yanked it off his head
and paraded around the ring with it. Everything seemed to be getting to
"the fabulous one". The crowd were incessant with chants of "Fabio
sucks" and "Nature-berg". This was a close one. The Chief was quick to
seize of Fabio's lapse in concentration to dominate proceedings early on.
Give Fabio credit he fought back gamely and really took it to the Chief.
The action spilled out of the ring with the Chief being belted with a drinks
tray. Some of the chops these two laid on each other were devastating.
In the end the Chief got the decision when Fabio tapped out after being
put in the Island Dream sleeper.
Dean Draven
pinned Pistol Pete.
Mace decided
to grace us with his presence at the announcers table. Pistol Pete was
first out then Dean Draven & Amy Action came to the ring announced
by Mace. Draven got a mixed reaction from the crowd as he had with him
Amy Action who proceeded to tell the crowd what she thought of them. The
crowd really got into this match. Lots of near falls, with Pete surprisingly
dominating early. Draven fought back and his experience took it's toll
on the younger more inexperienced Pete. Several times during the match
Amy made her presence felt. Pete was hanging in there though, kicking out
of several near pinning predicaments and almost scoring the fall several
times himself. Draven was distracted and finally lost it with his unwanted
cheerleader Mace whom he told to shut up. Draven went back to business
while Mace sulked.
After 17 minutes of constant action Amy protested to the referee. Big Al was then involved in an argument with her while Draven had Pete in an abdominal stretch when Mace hit the ring and flayed Draven from behind with the TWP title belt. Draven collapsed with a daze Pete on top of him. Big Al turned around and counted 1-2-3!! A boil over!! I announced "your NEW TWP heavyweight champion Pistol Pete!!" The Pistol Pete contingent in the crowd went nuts and the rest of the crowd were stunned. Mace was ecstatic and Dave Barrand was angry, so angry in fact that he made his way into the ring and told Al what had happened. They agreed to restart the match. After a brief exchange Draven caught Pete with a back suplex and then delivered the missile head butt from the top rope. Ref counted 1-2-3 and the status quo was restored.
If you think
this ends there folks, forget it. Mace then jumped from the stage and grabbed
Amy Action by the hair. He threatened to injure Amy if he wasn't granted
a shot at the TWP title. Faced with that Draven agreed. Mace then released
his grip on Amy and she went into the ring to be with the champ. This is
where this story gets really bizarre.
Amy Action
then turns on Dean Draven!! You read this right. Ms. Action delivered a
low blow which downed the exhausted champ. Then ladies champ grabbed the
mic and yelled "You've gone soft Draven, listening to these stupid fans.
You don't deserve that title and I'm gonna make sure you don't have it
anymore!!" Amy then left with her new protégé Mace.
Sonic &
Wild Child won the TWP tag team titles.
Let me see
if I get all of these stipulations right. No DQ, no count out, no submission,
falls count anywhere in the building, no holds barred, all weapons legal,
anything goes, last two men standing get the titles match - 60 minutes.
I think that's it. Did you get all that.
I was joined at ringside by the very modest Fabio, who told the crowd how privileged they were on his being there. They of course responded with the chants of "Fabio sucks". Striker strode to the ring first with his manager Venom, followed by the Wild Child who brought his pet snake which was taken away from him and placed with snake handler Les. Sonic then came out and an argument ensued between him & the Wild Child. It turned into a skirmish then when Maverick stormed the ring it turned into a major donnybrook as all 4 men just attacked each other with flag poles, tables, trays, signs and basically anything that was close at hand. There were more cheap shots, low blows. My broadcast partner Fabio was making a nuisance of himself. Frequently getting on the crowd's case and getting Maverick's back up by constantly berating him and his partner. A mistake. Fabio then started arguing with Dave Barrand and Maverick snuck up from behind and laid him out with a drinks tray.
The match went on and Striker decided that it was time for Venom to show her stuff in the ring. Venom delivered a text book bulldog to Maverick. Later on in the match Striker & Venom became overly ambitious and tried the move again, this time Maverick was quick to change spots with Striker and Venom unknowingly bulldogged Striker!! When the "Worlds greatest answer" came to he chastised Venom who apologized. Striker was peeved and continued to chastise Venom who then told Striker to "shove it!!" and promptly left the ringside area leaving Striker unimpressed and the crowd impressed.
The stipulations for the match were clear to all. Whomever lost the two falls were eliminated thus leaving a possible mongrel team as the champions. That's exactly what happened with Striker & Maverick being pinned leaving Sonic & Wild Child your new TWP tag title holders. So it was decided that December 16 card would feature another tag title match with the stipulations being, if Sonic or Maverick get the fall their team is reformed and get the titles and if Wild Child or Striker get the fall their team is also reformed and they get the titles.
After the match I spoke with a disconsolate Sonic & Maverick who were covered with bruises & welts. I tried to catch a word with Wild Child, he was buoyant feeling no pain whatsoever, virtually shoving the belt in my face yelling "I'm the champ, YEAH!!". Venom was nowhere to be seen & Striker, well he was telling me that it was a simple disagreement and that she'd be back as Venom would be back as he was in the right and she needs him. Sure Striker.
7-10-2000
Parramatta RSL. Macarthur Auditorium.
The show got
rolling with announcer Red Flair introducing proceedings.
Pistol Pete
pinned Paladin.
The show got
off to a quick start with Pistol Pete taking on newcomer Paladin. The Man
Mountain was at ringside "advising" or rather interfering, for his new
charge Paladin. Hot match, crowd got into it. Pistol seemed to have his
fan club at ringside and they almost wore him at one stage, with The Mountain
getting stuck into Pete while the ref Big Al was distracted. Pete won the
match with a roll up after about 8 or so minutes. After the match a wild
brawl ensued between Striker & Maverick. A hoard of wrestlers and announcer
Red Flair broke it up, with Maverick being escorted from ringside.
Maverick
pinned Striker to win the vacant TWP Lt Heavyweight title.
Striker stayed
in the ring. Red Flair interviewed Striker about the upcoming match. It
goes without saying that the "modest one" told the assembled throng about
his deserved favouritism. Venom did NOT appear at ringside. Red never one
to miss an opportunity chided Striker about this. Then they both gave their
theories on modern day womanhood and both seemed to agree with each other.
After the banter out came whom we thought to be Super Thunder with his
manager The Man Mountain. After the intros we were treated to a fantastic
match. The crowd was in purgatory. Not knowing who to cheer for, as neither
of these two have endeared themselves to the crowd in the past. This was
a really great match with both guys getting near falls. The Mountain again
made his rather large presence felt, and made it felt even more at the
3 count as he held Strikers' foot down, not letting Striker reach his foot
out to the ropes to avert the pinfall. Striker was duly miffed at this
and the fake Super Thunder and manager Man Mountain celebrated. All of
a sudden, Thunder levelled the Mountain, then Sonic (who was there to present
the title to the winner) made into the ring. They both stood nose to nose,
then Thunder unmasked, to reveal Maverick. The crowd went wild and The
Man Mountain was fuming. He charged at them only to be met by the jubilant
two, who disposed of the big man. Your winner & new TWP Australian
Light heavyweight champion: MAVERICK.
Dean Draven
defeated The Chief & Fabio The Fabulous. In a triple threat, last man
standing, elimination match.
Fabio was
the first out to the crowds disdain. Then Dean Draven walked out, and the
joint went nuts. The question that should be asked: Will Amy Action approve
of Draven's new found popularity. It doesn't seem to affect Dean, as he
is still as aggressive as ever. Fabio moaned that Draven has no guts and
would not put his title up against him. Draven glared at Fabio and fired
back. Word to the effect that he had no problems putting his title up.
Out of nowhere came the enormous frame of the ex-champ The Chief, loaded
and ready for a "stouch". He challenged Draven to a 3 way match. President
Dave Barrand okayed this and Draven readily accepted. The match was wild.
Fabio was first to go after about 10 minutes with The Chief being knocked
out when Fabio dropped down the top rope, leaving Dean Draven in the ring
and still the champ. Draven after the match addressed the crowd sounding
out Troy "the boy" Simmons.
Maverick
& Sonic defeated Wild Child & Night Crawler.
Maverick &
Sonic came into the arena to a heroes welcome, as usual. Same can't be
said for their opposition. This match was never in control, so I won't
bother saying it was out of control. The personality clash that was due
to go off, did. As Night Crawler would go for a cover, Wild Child would
break up the count and say "let me pin him". He did this on numerous occasions
which caused the Night Crawler to snap then snap-suplex his belligerent
partner. Wild Child was later pinned and the chance at TWP gold was lost.
14-10-2000
Toukley Bowling Club.
This card
was held a capacity house in the auditorium of the Toukley Bowling Club,
on the Central Coast, Toukley NSW.
Super Thunder
defeated Fabio by submission.
A very angry
Thunder (the real one this time) was a submission winner over Fabio. This
did not impress Fabio in the least, who vehemently protested to referee
Big Al. Fabio claimed that he didn't "tap out". After a push and
shove between the angry wrestler and the becoming angrier referee, a challenge
was issued. Al readily accepted this.
Big Al pinned
Fabio.
To ensure
order would be restored and each competitor would be given a "fair shake",
TWP president Dave Barrand would be the special referee. The match got
underway and Fabio dominated proceedings, going for the pinfall to no avail.
Fabio lost it yet again, claiming Dave Barrand was also a biased referee.
Fabio's manager The Man Mountain grew frustrated at his protégés'
failed efforts and climbed into the ring to show Fabio how to execute a
proper lateral press. Fabio laid down on the canvas and Mountain showed
him the proper technique of the pinfall. He laid on Fabio, problem was
Al jumped on top of the pair of them and scored a very unlikely victory.
To say Fabio was disgusted, was to state the obvious.
Sonic pinned
Mace.
A terrific
match with one half of the TWP Australian tag team champions scoring a
hard earned pinfall victory over the ever improving Mace.
Maverick
pinned Wild Child.
Yet another
terrific match. To much action to describe. Both wrestlers put in a great
effort with Maverick successfully defending his TWP Australian Light heavyweight
title against the very game Wild Child.
Dean Draven
retained TWP title by DQ over The Chief.
The hometown
lad (apparently) won this match and regained the TWP Australian heavyweight
title. With the crowd support behind him the big Chief choke slammed Draven
from the top rope to regain the title, or so we thought. The decision was
later reversed & Draven retained the title on a technicality. The question
being asked after this one is: Did Draven lose concentration. Draven really
wants to get at Troy the Boy, maybe he wasn't totally focused on the proceedings.
Wild Child
won the Central Coast Rumble trophy.
Big Al was
defending his Central Coast Rumble trophy title. He was the first in and
sadly it wasn't his night. However a new champ emerged. The last 3 were
Maverick, Draven & the Wild Child. Draven & Maverick were battling
each other while Wild Child his outside the ring. Wild Child entered as
Draven & Maverick eliminated each other leaving Wild Child triumphant
in the middle of the ring, the new champ.
These match
reports were compiled by the web dude & Dave Barrand.
9-9-2000
Parramatta RSL. Macarthur Auditorium.
The night
opened with Striker telling then yelling at the crowd, telling them how
good he was while Venom tried to keep the crowd quiet, which of course
failed dismally. The crowd have got a real problem with Striker. If what
went on later is any indication, their not the only ones.
Sonic pinned
Pistol Pete.
Terrific opener,
with Sonic getting one of the biggest reactions of the night. He's a crowd
favourite and they really got into this match. This was Pete's debut and
he showed a ton of potential. During the match Wild Child made his presence
felt at ringside with trusty snake in hand, causing Sonic to lose concentration.
Despite this Sonic rallied and put away the rookie getting a pinfall after
about 8 minutes. Wild Child challenged Sonic to a match later that night
and Sonic readily accepted.
Red Flair
& Fabio The Fabulous wrestled to a double count out.
This was supposed
to be a "Hair vs. Hair" match. Fabio strolled his way to ringside to what
can be best described as a hostile reaction. Then Red Flair made his way
to the ring to a positive response, which soon turned hostile as well when
berating the crowd, saying how privileged the crowd were to be in his presence.
Both men were counted out of the ring, so neither lost his hair. However
ref Big Al did lose a lock of his own, as both men turned on Al after the
double count out finish.
Wild Child
pinned Sonic.
This was a
brawl. No holds used in this one. As they tore at each other like men possessed.
Furniture was in bountiful supply as each man introduced the other to the
wonders of pine tables. Wild Child pinned Sonic after his trusty Louisville
slugger baseball bat found it's way into his hands and on to the top of
Sonic's head.
Maverick
vs. Super Thunder. No Contest.
Thunder's
Light Heavyweight championship was on the line. Super Thunder got the early
ad with a succession of savot kicks which had the champ reeling. If that
wasn't enough Maverick had to contend with Thunder's 400 lb sidekick The
Man Mountain, who constantly interfered. To the crowds shock Striker appeared
at ringside and prevented the big man from interfering. But appearances
were deceiving as Striker turned on Maverick, thus causing the match to
be declared a "no contest". This act of bravado on Striker's part may cost
him though, as Venom was totally unimpressed with his actions. Poor Al
copped it yet again. If I were you Al I'd Mortgage the house and SUE!!
Dean Draven
won the TWP Heavyweight title defeating The Chief.
The stipulation
for this match was victory by submissions only, a match up Draven's alley.
Earlier in
the evening Draven, who's behaviour on the night was best described as
irrational addressed the crowd. He claimed that he didn't need Amy Action
(who was conspicuous by her absence) or anyone else to get his title back.
Then the special ref Troy Simmons (who returned to the ring after a long
absence) pointed out to Dean that he was the ref and he was the roadblock
standing in his way of getting his belt back. So incensed at this, Draven
attacked Troy The Boy and left him laying in the ring after a stiff back
kick.
The main event
rolled around and Draven still angry stomped out to ringside, giving the
fans a mouthful for good measure. The Chief came out to a great ovation,
and as he thought, the main obstacle to Draven's title aspirations. Draven
managed to score with a shot to the Chief's knee and with his trusty chair
even further weaken the already injured limb. The end came when Draven
who managed to get the big man in a leg submission. Simmons signals to
the timekeeper to ring the bell, from where I was standing I thought the
Chief had tapped out. The Chief was stunned as he hadn't submitted and
looked over to see newly crowned champ Draven and special ref Simmons celebrating.
They double teamed the Chief and threw him out of the ring, so they could
continue celebrating their ill gotten gain to the hoots of an angry crowd.
When all of a sudden Troy The Boy levelled Draven with a clothesline, then
proceeded to totally annihilate to the already match exhausted Dean Draven,
even further confusing the already confused crowd. Troy is back, as he
exclaimed. Back in a big way.
